Abstract
A high frequency device having a two-dimensional periodic structure of dielectric columns in a waveguide, the structure having any defect region, in which management of fabrication is facilitated while ensuring excellent characteristics and low loss. The high frequency device includes a dielectric column lattice group (5A) where dielectric columns (4) are provided in two-dimensional periodic arrangement between opposing conductive faces α and β of a cavity (3) in a waveguide (2A). A predetermined clearance (7) is provided between the end face (4a) of a dielectric column (4) adjacent at least to a defect (6') in the dielectric column lattice group (5A) and the conductive face α of the waveguide (2A), so that a surface current owing to magnetic field energy on the conductive face α of the waveguide (2A) is reduced to increase a no-load Q, as well as management of fabrication is more facilitated as compared with a case where the clearance (7) is not provided.
