The method includes receiving a call message and extracting caller identification; if the caller identification corresponds to caller identification recorded in a table stored in a storage unit, determining whether the caller identification corresponds to caller identification which is set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted; for caller identification which is set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted, performing a call rejection function, and, for caller identification which is not set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted, reading function set information and charge information; and providing notification of call time and call charge information during the call based on the function set information.

Description

Description
METHOD FOR INFORMING CALL TIME AND CHARGE INFORMATION, AND TERMINAL USING THE SAME
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates, in general, to a mobile communication system, and, more particularly, to a method of providing notification of call time and call charge information during a call in the event of using one of the specified numbers, and a mobile communication terminal using the same.
[2]
Background Art
[3] Generally, according to the communication method, mobile communication systems are classified into a Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) system for dividing a predetermined frequency band into a plurality of channels and allowing subscribers to use respective allocated frequency channels, a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) system for a plurality of subscribers to use one frequency channel at divided times, and a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system for allowing a plurality of subscribers to use the same frequency band at the same time while allocating different codes to respective subscribers and allowing the subscribers to perform communication using the codes.
[4] A CDMA network, which is a representative of the mobile communication systems, includes Mobile Stations (MSs) of subscribers, one or more Base Transceiver Systems (BTSs) configured to perform wireless communication with the mobile stations, one or more Base Station Controllers (BSCs) 130 configured to control the base transceiver systems, and one or more Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) connected to the base station controllers via wired connection and configured to switch the calls of the respective subscribers. The base transceiver systems and the base station controllers are collectively called Base Stations (BSs).
[5] Each mobile switching center performs a call switching operation of connecting an originated call to a called party in the case of the voice and data communication, so that the transmission/reception of data between a calling party and a called party, as well as the voice call therebetween, is possible, and determines the mobile telephone number of a subscriber or the location of a mobile terminal at the time of the call switching with reference to subscriber information stored in a Home Location Register (HLR) and a Visitor Location Register (VLR), which are well-known.
[6] Meanwhile, with the rapid development of communication technology, the mobile communication systems, including the CDMA network, provide various types of additional services in addition to a general voice call service. A representative example of the additional services is a caller identification service that almost all subscribers currently use. The caller identification service is a service in which Caller IDen- tification (CID), including the telephone number of a calling party, is provided to the mobile terminal of a called party in advance before a call is set up between the mobile terminal of the calling party and the mobile terminal of the called party, so that each subscriber can determine who is making a call in advance, and then deal with the corresponding call based on the determination.
[7] The mobile terminal of the called party, which has received the caller identification from the base station, refers to whether a name, corresponding to the telephone number of the calling party included in the caller identification, has been stored in the internal address book thereof. If the corresponding name is found, the corresponding name, together with the telephone number of the calling party, is displayed on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) window of the mobile terminal. Therefore, the called party can determine the telephone number and/or name of the calling party using the above- described calling party number identification service, thereby easily determining the identity of the calling party before a call is connected.
[8] Recently, various functions using such caller identification have been provided. For example, different ring tones are output for respective callers or different color Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) light up for respective callers, so that a user can visually identify the callers.
[9] Recently, the number of services on which expensive call charges are imposed (for example, 080 service, 700 service, and the like), including an international telephone call, have increased. When an international telephone call or a service on which an expensive call charge is imposed is used, a function of properly warning a user of the expensive call charge using the above-described caller identification has been demanded.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
[29] he object, features, and advantages of the present invention will be clearly understood through the embodiments below.
[30] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the attached drawings.
[31] First, it should be noted that the same reference numerals are used throughout the different drawings to designate the same components and parts. Detailed descriptions of well-known functions and configurations related to the description of the present invention will be omitted in order to prevent the gist of the present invention from being obscured.
[32] FIG. 1 is a block diagram schematically showing the configuration of a mobile communication system for providing notification of call time and call charge information when a specified number is terminated or originated according to the present invention.
[33] Referring to FIG. 1, when a calling party terminal 10 requests a call, the calling party terminal 10 transmits call identification (information about calling identification display) via an access channel. Here, the caller identification is information determined and provided by a communication network so that a called party can know the telephone number of a calling party. Although the exact name of the caller identification is used as 'caller information display' or 'caller identification display', it will be referred to as 'caller identification' in the present invention for clarity. The telephone number and name of a calling party are displayed on the display terminal device of a called subscriber using the caller identification service, and the name or telephone number of a counter party can be made known using the caller identification service, so that prank calls, obscene calls, and violent calls can be blocked and missed calls can be determined. The caller identification received from the calling party terminal 10 is transmitted to a mobile communication switching system 20. A base station 24, included in the mobile communication switching system 20, transmits a call message including the caller identification to a called party terminal 30. The called party terminal 30 receives the call message from the base station 24, and displays the caller identification included in the call message when informing a subscriber that a call is terminated, so that a called party can determine the caller identification.
[34] FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing the detailed configuration of a mobile communication terminal to which the present invention is applied.
[35] Referring to FIG. 2, the mobile communication terminal includes a control unit 220 for controlling overall operation, a storage unit 230 for storing data, a transmission/ reception unit 210 for performing communication with one or more base stations through an antenna, an audio unit 250 for inputting/outputting voice signals, and a display unit 240 for displaying the status of a mobile phone and caller identification such that a user can visually identify them.
[36] Here, the storage unit 230 includes Read Only Memory (ROM) storing a predetermined program for controlling the overall operation of the mobile phone and Random Access Memory (RAM) storing various types of data input/output and processed when the overall operation of the mobile phone is performed by the control unit 220, and stores data for specified numbers used in the present invention.
[37] The transmission/reception unit 210 is a signal reception unit, and includes a demodulation unit 212 for demodulating a received signal corresponding to the way in which the received signal was modulated, a decoder unit 214 for performing decoding on the demodulated signal corresponding to the way in which a transmission terminal performs encoding, and a caller identification extraction unit 216 for extracting caller identification from the decoded signal.
[38] Further, the power system of the mobile phone generally includes a rechargeable battery 260 so that it can be portable and mobile.
[39] FIG. 3 is a flowchart showing a method of providing notification of call time and call charge information when a call is terminated using a specified number according to an embodiment of the present invention. Hereinafter, the method of providing notification of call time and call charge information when a call is terminated using a specified number will be described with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.
[40] Referring to FIG. 2, when a call message is received at step 310, as described above, the caller identification extraction unit 216 extracts caller identification from a received signal and transmits it to the control unit 220 at step 320. The control unit 220 searches a table stored in the storage unit 230 in advance, and searches for information corresponding to the currently received caller identification at step 330.
[41] The table, stored in the storage unit 230 in advance, indicates a table for recording numbers stored by a user or numbers stored when a mobile terminal is manufactured. That is, the caller identification recorded in the table is a number designated as the above-described 'specified number'. The specified number includes information about an international telephone call terminated as, particularly, a collect call, a 700 service, a 060 service, and a 080 service, which provide additional information services, country numbers, and the calling party number of an international telephone call. For example, if caller identification for an international collect call is "08317", the user or manufacturer of a mobile terminal registers "08317" in the predetermined table of the storage unit 230. The example of the configuration of the table is illustrated in Table 1 below.
[42] [43] Table 1
Figure imgf000008_0001
[44] [45] Referring to Table 1, it can be known that a CID/calling party number list, storing a number including 700, 080, and 001, a restriction on the reception of calls/sending of calls list, an expected call charge list, and a set function information list are stored. Here, the case of the restriction on the reception of calls/sending of calls is divided into four cases, that is, OO' , Ol', '10' , and '11'. The cases are configured such that the case in which both the reception of calls and the sending of calls are restricted is set to OO', the case in which the reception of calls is restricted but the sending of calls is not restricted is set to '01', the case in which both the reception of calls and the sending of calls are not restricted is set to ' 11 ' , and the case in which the reception of calls is restricted but the sending of calls is possible is set to ' 10'. Next, the case of the 'function (or called 'set function')' is divided into the case where only an alarm function is set for call time and call charges during a call and the case where call time is restricted in advance (for example, call time is set such that a call is terminated after one minute), and the divided cases are stored. Here, if caller identification is not transmitted from a calling party terminal, one of the numbers stored in the table may be processed as the caller identification, or a step of asking a user whether a call should be received may be additionally performed. Further, in the case where only '700' or '060' is recorded in the table, and the remaining digits thereof are not designated the present invention may be applied to all numbers that start with '700' or '060'.
[46] If a list including the currently received caller identification is not recorded in the table at step 330, a usual process is performed at step 340. If, as a result of the determination at step 330, the caller identification is identical to a number recorded in the table, the control unit 230 determines whether the number is set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted based on information stored in the table at step 350. If the number is set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted, a call rejection function is performed. The call rejection function may be, for example, a function of transmitting busy tones to a calling party terminal while a termination signal is not output.
[47] If, as a result of the determination at step 350, the number is not set such that the reception of calls therefrom is restricted, notification that the specified number is currently designated to be terminated is provided using the display unit 6 or a speaker (not shown) connected to the audio unit 12 such that the user is asked whether to receive a call at step 370. Here, step 370 may be omitted, so that it need not be performed depending on setting. If the user attempts a call by opening the folder of a mobile terminal or pressing the predetermined key of the mobile terminal, the control unit 220 reads function set information and charge information for a corresponding caller from the storage unit 230 at step 380.
[48] Here, the function set information indicates information set by the user or the man- ufacturer of a mobile terminal depending on the specified numbers stored in the predetermined table of the storage unit 230. For example, the function set information may be used to output an alarm for termination of a collect call for one minute during a call or to terminate the call after a predetermined time has elapsed. Further, the function set information includes payment information, designated according to countries in the case of an international telephone call, and includes information for call charges set for one minute in the case of the additional service numbers (700, 060, and the like). Here, in the case of the international telephone call, call charges may greatly differ from each other for each service provider or for each country, so that arbitrarily set reference charges can be applied. That is, call charges may be applied using the same ratio regardless of the type of service provider, and, in the case of payment information designated according to countries, arbitrarily set reference charges can be applied.
[49] The control unit 220 informs the user of call time and payment (charge) information during a call at step 390 based on the set information and charge information read at step 380. Here, a method of providing notification of call time includes a method of outputting a mechanical sound for one minute or outputting a total call time announcement for one minute. In the case of the call charge information, a method of outputting an announcement for the approximate amount of call charge to be imposed in proportion to call time for each predetermined period or displaying it on the display unit 240, along with the call time, may be included. In the case of the payment information, this can be updated when a mobile terminal operating program is updated or can be directly modified by a user and stored.
[50] FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing a method of providing notification of the call time and call charge information when a call is originated using a specified number according to the present invention.
[51] Referring to FIG. 3, when the user of the mobile terminal inputs a telephone number and a call is originated at step 410, the control unit 220 searches the table stored in the storage unit 230 for the input number and determines whether the input number is a number recorded in the table at step 420. If, as a result of the determination at step 420, the input number is determined not to be a number that is recorded in the table, the control unit 220 performs a usual sending process at step 430. Here, like the embodiment described in conjunction with FIG. 3, for example, if only '700', '060', and '00X' are recorded in the table, all numbers starting with '700', '060', and '00X' are processed as numbers recorded in the table.
[52] If, as a result of the determination at step 420, the input number is determined to be a number that is recorded in the table, the control unit 220 determines whether the number is set such that the sending of calls thereto is restricted at step 440. If the number is set such that the sending of calls thereto is restricted, the user is informed that the number is set such that the sending of calls thereto is restricted by displaying the fact or outputting a loud sound at step 450. If the number is not set such that the sending of calls thereto is restricted, the control unit 220 reads function set information and charge information for a corresponding caller from the storage unit 230 at step 470. Based on the set information and charge information read at step 470, the user is informed of call time and payment (charge) information during a call. Here, the set information and charge information at step 470 are applied in the same manner as the details described in conjunction with FIG. 3.
[53] Although the present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, the embodiments do not limit the present invention but are provided for illustrative purpose. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that variations, modifications, and adjustments of the above-described embodiments are possible without departing from the technical scope of the present invention. Accordingly, it should be understood that the range of technical protection of the present invention includes the embodiments of variations, modifications, and adjustments as well as the accompanying claims.
