Abstract

A method for enabling improvements in data compression, the method comprising: processing the set of data; deriving from the processing step details of one or more attributes of the set of data; generating a record on the basis of the said details; and making the record available to a subsequent compression process for use in selecting a suitable one from a series of compression algorithms for compressing the set of data.
