Description

The present invention relates to traffic accident prevention systems. It relates, more particularly, to a system making it possible to inform the driver of a vehicle of dangers, obstacles, anomalies, etc. of which he is likely to be a victim.
Such systems have already been proposed. Generally, the driver of the vehicle receives on a screen, at his request or automatically, with or without the help of a GPS system making it possible to determine his position, information concerning the traffic problems in a given region, the manner of avoid traffic jams, limited speed zones, nearby service stations, ...
Note, however, that these systems provide very general information about what is happening within a given radius, without taking into account, for example, the direction of the vehicle, its speed, the dangers presented by other vehicles stopped in front of it or oncoming. In other words, the information received is not targeted to the immediate safety of the vehicle, taking into account its direction. It is therefore useless, even dangerous, to report a problem with nearby traffic that does not concern him.
The object of the present invention is precisely to provide a system free from the drawbacks reducing the advantage of the devices mentioned above.
More specifically, the invention relates to an accident prevention system consisting of a plurality of devices, fixed or placed in a vehicle, capable of communicating with each other and each comprising a memory and a microprocessor programmed to control the following operations :

. signalisation de ces informations à son conducteur, . détection d'anomalies signalées par le véhicule lui-même,. signaling of this information to its driver,. detection of anomalies reported by the vehicle itself,
. détection d'anomalies reçues d'autres dispositifs, et . émission d'informations relatives au danger que présente le véhicule et comprenant des informations contenues dans sa mémoire, des informations relatives aux anomalies signalées par lui-même et des informations relatives aux anomalies reçues d'autres dispositifs.. detection of anomalies received from other devices, and. emission of information relating to the danger presented by the vehicle and comprising information contained in its memory, information relating to the anomalies reported by itself and information relating to the anomalies received from other devices.
Le système selon l'invention présente encore les principales caractéristiques suivantes :The system according to the invention also has the following main characteristics:

Other characteristics of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, made with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
- la figure 1 est une représentation schématique du système selon l'invention ; et- Figure 1 is a schematic representation of the system according to the invention; and
- la figure 2, scindée en deux parties 2a et 2b, montre la structure du programme animant les dispositifs du système, qu'ils soient fixes ou embarqués dans un véhicule.- Figure 2, split into two parts 2a and 2b, shows the structure of the program driving the system devices, whether fixed or embedded in a vehicle.
The system according to the invention consists of devices, such as that shown in FIG. 1, capable of communicating with one another. They can be either fixed and placed, for example, near a school, a public place, a dangerous bend, the place of an accident, ... or mobile and installed, for example, in a automobile, a slow vehicle, an ambulance, a police car, a fire engine, ... or carried by a pedestrian, a cyclist, ... which, to facilitate the description, will be qualified as a vehicle.
The device represented in FIG. 1 essentially comprises, inside a housing 10, a GPS system 11, a transceiver 12, a microprocessor 13 coupled to these two bodies and associated with a memory 14. An antenna 15 connects outside the GPS 11 and the transceiver 12. The microprocessor 13 can receive, from the outside, on an input 16, information coming from the vehicle in which the device is installed. It is also connected, outside the housing, to a display 17 and to an alarm sound 18. Finally, an input 19 is used to connect a keyboard allowing data and commands to be entered into the device.
The configuration shown in Figure 1 is that of a device installed in a vehicle. When it is a fixed device, some of these elements are not necessary, as will appear in the following description. For example, a fixed terminal signaling a school does not need a GPS or a receiver.
Reference will now be made to FIG. 2 which represents the structure of the program animating the microprocessor 13, whether the device is fixed or mobile.
When the device is switched on, the first operation 30 is, on the basis of the data previously entered in the memory 14, to determine whether it is fixed or mobile.
In the case of a fixed installation, the following operations are the reading 31, in the internal clock of the microprocessor 13, of the date and the time, then the verification 32 of whether, at the present moment, the memory 14 contains information regarding specific traffic restrictions in effect at this location. When, for example, the device is near a school, it will determine whether, to date and at this time, schoolchildren are around.
Si tel est le cas, le système élabore, en 33, un message contenant, typiquement, les informations suivantes :If this is the case, the system generates, at 33, a message containing, typically, the following information:
- nature du danger : école, travaux, accident, virage dangereux, carrefour modifié, verglas, brouillard, manifestation, ... ; - attitude à adopter : ralentir, serrer à droite, ... ;- nature of the danger: school, work, accident, dangerous turn, modified crossroads, ice, fog, demonstration, ...; - attitude to adopt: slow down, tighten to the right, ...;
- sa position : longitude et latitude ;- its position: longitude and latitude;
- éventuellement, le côté de la route où se trouve le danger.- possibly, the side of the road where the danger is.
The message is then transmitted, at 34, typically at the rate of 4 packets per second distributed randomly in a 250 ms window, after which the system returns to the starting point to start a new cycle. If, on the contrary, the day and the hour do not correspond to the presence of a danger, the system emits nothing and returns directly to its starting point.
L'opération suivante 36 consiste à déterminer si un danger a été détecté .When the device has determined, at 30, that it is mobile, the first operation is, at 35, the detection of an anomaly which can either be signaled by the vehicle electronics on input 16, for example, by case of strong deceleration, sudden change of direction, ignition of fog lights or distress, ... is received by the receiver 12 to which an external terminal has indicated, for example, that the vehicle takes the highway against sense, ... The following operation 36 consists in determining whether a danger has been detected.
If this is the case, the system elaborates, at 37, a message containing, typically, the following three levels of information, describing the risks presented by the vehicle:
- nature du danger: véhicule d'urgence, véhicule en faute grave, véhicule en difficulté ;- nature of the danger: emergency vehicle, vehicle at serious fault, vehicle in difficulty;
- pour chaque type de danger ci-dessus, identification du danger :- for each type of danger above, identification of the danger:
. si véhicule d'urgence : véhicule de police, véhicule de pompiers, ambulance, ... ;. if emergency vehicle: police vehicle, fire engine, ambulance, ...;
. si véhicule en faute très grave : véhicule à contre sens, ... ; . si véhicule en difficulté : accident, freinage d'urgence, feux de brouillard, feux de détresse, véhicule au ralenti, ... ;. if vehicle in very serious fault: vehicle against direction, ...; . if vehicle in difficulty: accident, emergency braking, fog lights, hazard lights, idling vehicle, ...;
- pour chaque danger identifié, instructions à suivre : laisser passer, stop, go, ralentir, serrer à droite ou à gauche, ... .- for each identified danger, instructions to follow: pass, stop, go, slow down, tighten to the right or left, ....
For vehicles with more sophisticated equipment, the message developed in 37 may still contain the following information:
- direction du véhicule calculée par son GPS ou sa boussole électronique ;- direction of the vehicle calculated by its GPS or its electronic compass;
- vitesse du véhicule calculée par son GPS ou son tachymètre ;- vehicle speed calculated by its GPS or tachometer;
The message thus prepared is then sent at 38, in the same way as at 34, as long as the anomaly remains. The transmission can also be stopped after a few seconds if the driver of the vehicle deactivates the device using the keypad or, automatically, when after a stop, the vehicle restarts.
The device then passes to the reception program, the first operation of which consists in checking whether a message has been received.
When no anomaly has been detected at 36, the system immediately proceeds to operation 39. If a message has been received, the system checks, at 40, that the message relates to the vehicle because its direction risks making it meet the danger. The verification is made on the basis of the position and direction information which it has received and which is specific to it. It is useless, in fact, to alert the driver of a vehicle to a danger which, of course, is close to him but which he is not likely to encounter.
When check 40 is negative, the system returns to the starting point to start a new cycle.
When, on the contrary, the verification 40 confirms that the message indeed relates to the vehicle, the next operation is, at 41, the determination of its position and that of the source which transmits the message followed by the calculation of the variation of the distance which separates them. This position determination can be done either using the information provided by the vehicle GPS or by measuring the reception level of the received signal.
The system must then, at 42, from the calculation of variation of distance carried out at 41, determine whether the vehicle is approaching the danger and / or if the danger is approaching it.
If the vehicle is moving away from the danger concerned, since there is no need to alert its driver, the system returns to the starting point to start a new cycle. If, on the contrary, the vehicle is approaching danger, the system alerts its driver, at 43, by making appear on display 17 a message corresponding to the information received and, possibly, by activating the acoustic alarm 18. The next operation consists in checking, at 44, whether the message received indicates a speed limit.
If not, the system returns to its starting point.
If, on the other hand, the vehicle arrives in a limited speed zone, the system determines, at 45, the speed of the vehicle using its GPS or its tachometer then, at 46, determines if the speed imposed is respected.
Le système selon l'invention :In case the vehicle respects the imposed speed, the system returns to its starting point. But if there is speeding, a warning message is provided, at 47, on the display 17 and / or the acoustic alarm 18, after which the system returns to its starting point. It may be advantageous, for a driver accustomed to a journey, to allow him the possibility of introducing into the device of his vehicle, by the keyboard connected to the input 19, the deactivation instructions necessary so as to no longer be annoyed by certain messages from fixed devices indicating, for example, a dangerous turn or crossroads. Thus, an accident prevention system is proposed, but not repressive, making it possible to establish, between two mobile devices or between a mobile device and a fixed device, a filtered communication well suited to the situation of each. The system according to the invention:
- signale seulement les vrais dangers et élimine donc les messages relatifs à des dangers proches mais dont on est en train de s'éloigner ou qu'on ne rencontrera pas ;- signals only the real dangers and therefore eliminates messages relating to dangers which are close but which we are moving away from or which we will not encounter;
- provides well-targeted information, that is to say without background noise, on the nature of what is "in front" and the security measures to be taken. The safety of road users is therefore optimally ensured.
