Abstract

A method and apparatus is afforded for providing fast memory access to digital data. Data is received from a data source and encoded (40). The data is then stored in a first memory (42) and a second memory (44). The first memory stores and delivers the data at a faster rate than the second memory. Request for the data is received from a client and the first memory is accessed to deliver the data to the client. Where the data is not available from the first memory, the second memory (44) is accessed for the data and the data is written to the first memory (42). The data is then delivered to the client following retrieval of the data from the first memory in accordance with the client request.
