CONNECTION IS ACHIEVED BY ONE CLICK OF ICON DISPLAYED ON
WEB PAGE AND METHOD THEREOF
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a system and method for providing a collect call service in the Internet, more particularly, in which a call connection is carried out with one click of an icon provided in an Internet shopping mall so that a customer can have a direct conversation with a consultant associated with the shopping mall.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In general, the Internet means a computer communication network for connecting the whole world using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). An Internet shopping mall means a system which establishes shops or stores in the Internet where Internet users (hereinafter will be referred to as "customer") visit to purchase goods, and is also called as an electric shopping mall or an electric commerce system. There are advantages in the Internet shopping mall that the coverage is global, time and cost saving is possible while a large amount of additional effects can be accompanied, and the launch and withdrawal thereof is easier compared to other industry. In the Internet shopping business, the means of payment/settlement, the development of a various commercial articles, and a logistic/delivery systems are considered as very important factors as well as the construction of the infrastructure of
information technologies including a code/security technique, an authentication system, a related law system, a personal information protection technique, etc.
The customer should use the one-way information provided from the Internet shoppmg mall in order to select an article registered in such an Internet shopping mall. However, the user needs to confirm more detailed information and more detailed purchasing conditions about the articles which he/she wants to purchase in the process of purchasing articles. For the purpose of it, a channel is required for the customer to directly communicate with an operator of the Internet shopping mall and also the cost should not be heavy for the Internet shopping operator to manage the communication channel.
Also, a means for supporting customer via collect call can be sincerely requested when public offices or manufacturing industries establish Internet home pages to provide administrative services or products related services.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is proposed to comply with the foregoing requests and it is therefore an object of the invention to provide a system and method for providing a collect call service in which a call connection is carried out with one click of an icon displayed in an Internet web page so that a customer can have a direct conversation with a consultant associated with the shopping mall, and the cost thereof is charged to a web service provider or a call service provider.
According to an embodiment of the invention to obtain the foregoing object, it is provided a system for providing a collect call service between a customer computer
and a consultant terminal for providing additional information about a web service for a customer, in which a call connection is carried out by one click of an icon displayed in a web page, the system comprising: a telephone service requesting web server being connected with the customer computer via the Internet for transmitting a web service providing document including a telephone service requesting icon linked with a URL of a telephone service providing web server and a consultant terminal identifier to the customer computer; the telephone service providing web server being connected to the customer computer via the Internet by one click of the telephone service requesting icon for receiving the consultant terminal identifier from the customer computer and reading out a corresponding consultant terminal telephone number from a telephone number database; a signal converting server for converting a first voice data received from the telephone service providing web server into a first speech tone signal and converting a second speech tone signal into a second voice data; and a collect call telephone network for setting a communication channel between the signal converting server and the consultant terminal in response to a collect call telephone request from the signal converting server and demanding charges to a web service provider or a telephone service provider; wherein the telephone service providing web server sets the communication channel between the customer computer and the signal converting server to transmit/receive a voice data to/from the customer computer; and wherein the signal converting server transmits the first speech tone signal to the collect call telephone network, and receives the second speech tone signal from the collect call telephone network to transmit to the telephone service providing web server after conversion into the second voice data.
In the system for providing a collect call service, the telephone service
providing web server downloads a VoIP support program to the customer computer when first connected to the customer computer via the Internet, wherein the VoIP support program transmits a voice signal of the customer after digitalizing the same and outputs a voice data received via the Internet after converting the same into a voice signal.
According to another embodiment of the invention to obtain the foregoing object, it is provided a method for providing a collect call service between a customer computer and a consultant terminal for providing additional information about a web service for a customer, in which a connection is carried out by one click of an icon displayed in a web page, the method comprising the following steps of: (a) transmitting, from a telephone service requesting web server for providing the web service, a web service providing document including a telephone service requesting icon linked with a URL of a telephone service providing web server and a consultant terminal identifier to the customer computer; (b) connecting the customer computer and the telephone service providing web server via the Internet by one click of the telephone service requesting icon and transmitting the consultant terminal identifier from the customer computer to the telephone service providing web server; and (c) setting, in the telephone service providing web server, a communication channel between the customer computer and the consultant' terminal via a collect call public telephone network by using a consultant terminal telephone number corresponding to the consultant terminal identifier.
In the method for providing a collect call service, the (b) step comprises the step of downloading a VoIP support program to the customer computer when first connected to the customer computer via the Internet, wherein the VoIP support program transmits a voice signal of the customer after digitalizing the same and outputs a voice
data received via the Internet after converting the same into a voice signal.
Further, in the method for providing a collect call service, the (c) step of setting a communication channel between the customer computer and the consultant terminal is carried out by converting a voice data transmitted in the Internet into a speech tone signal transmitted from the collect call telephone network and converting a speech tone signal transmitted from the collect call telephone network into a voice data transmitted in the Internet.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Hereinafter it will be described in detail about a preferred embodiment of the present invention in reference to the appended drawings.
Referring to FIG. 1, a system for providing a collect call service in the Internet according to an embodiment of the invention comprises a customer computer 10, a telephone service requesting web server 12, a telephone service providing web server 14, a signal converting server 16, a collect call service providing system 18, a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) 40 and a consultant terminal 20. Herein, the collect call service providing system 18 and the PSTN 40 will be considered as incorporated and thus called a "collect call telephone network".
In the application, the Internet 30 means a computer communication network for connecting the whole world by using the TCP/IP. A web server including the telephone service requesting web server 12 and the telephone service providing web server 14, as though means a software for providing a web service in an Internet connected environment in general, will be used as a concept including a computer system performing the software in the application.
The telephone service requesting web server 12 is connected to the customer computer via the Internet 30, and transmits a web service document including a URL(Uniform Resource Locator) of the web page provided by the telephone service providing web server 14 and an identifier for identifying the consultant terminal 20 to the customer computer 10. In other words, the telephone service requesting server 12, which is one of the servers for providing a certain web service, includes a telephone service requesting icon in an Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) document transmitted to the customer computer 10 so that the customer can click the telephone service requesting icon when he/she wants to have a direct voice conversation with the consultant.
The customer computer 10 includes a web browser as a software which can
read the HTML document which is the standard document in the web, and can search for necessary information from a number of web servers connected via the Internet 30.
If the customer clicks the telephone service requesting icon in the displayed HTML document, the customer computer 10 is hyper-linked to a web page which is provided by the telephone service providing server by using the URL included in the displayed
HTML document.
The customer computer 10 comprises a microphone (not shown) for receiving a voice signal from the customer and a speaker (not shown) for outputting a voice signal to the customer. Also, the customer computer 10 performs a VoIP support program downloaded from the telephone service providing web server 14, in which the VoIP support program converts the voice signal of the customer received through the microphone into a voice data according to the voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to transmit the converted signal via the Internet 30 and converts a voice data transmitted via the Internet 30 to output the converted voice data through the speaker. Upon first connecting to the customer computer 10 via the Internet 30, the telephone service providing web server 14 downloads the VoIP support program to the customer computer 10, and receives the identifier for identifying the consultant terminal 20 from the customer computer 10. The telephone service providing web server 14 comprises' a telephone number database (not shown) for storing telephone numbers corresponding to the identifier for identifying the consultant terminal 20. Therefore, the telephone service providing web server 14 accesses the telephone number database to read out a telephone number of the consultant terminal 20 corresponding to the identifier of the consultant terminal 20, and sets a communication channel between the customer computer 10 and the consultant terminal 20 by using the read out telephone
number.
The signal converting server 16 is connected to the telephone service providing web server 14 to transmit/receive the voice data. Also, the signal converting server 16 is connected to the consultant terminal 20 via the collect call telephone network, converts a speech tone transmitted from the collect call telephone network into a voice data to send to the telephone service providing web server 14, and converts a voice data transmitted from the telephone service providing web server 14 into a speech tone to send to the collect call telephone network.
The collect call telephone network comprises the PSTN 40 and the collect call telephone service providing system 18 managing the PSTN 40 for collecting telephone charges from the web service provider or the telephone service provider. The collect call telephone service providing system 18 is preferably connected to the signal converting server via a leased line. Herein, it can be easily understood by those skilled in the art that the collect call telephone network can be easily replaced with a private telephone network without departing from the technical spirit of the invention.
The consultant terminal 20 converts a voice signal of the consultant associated with an operator of the telephone service requesting web server 12 into a speech tone signal and transmits the converted sound signal via the collect call telephone network, and converts a speech tone signal received via the collect call telephone network into a voice signal and outputs the converted voice signal. Therefore, the consultant terminal 20 can be a common (wire/radio) telephone transceiver or a computer having call fransmitting/receiving functions.
Hereinafter, an operation process of the invention will be described in detail.
In step 200, when providing the customer with a web service, the web server
(hereinafter will be referred to as the "telephone service requesting web server 12") can include a telephone service requesting icon 50 as shown in FIG. 3 A in the HTML document transmitted to the customer computer 10 in order to comply with the customer request. Here, the telephone service requesting icon 50 is linked with the URL for connection to the telephone service providing web server 14 and the identifier of the consultant terminal 20.
• The customer of the telephone service requesting web server 12 can click the telephone service requesting icon 50 on the HTML document displayed in the customer computer 10 when he/she wants to have a direct voice conversation with the preset consultant. Then, the customer computer 10 is hyper-linked to the URL linked to the telephone service requesting icon 50 to be connected with the telephone service providing web server 14 in step 210. Then, the telephone service providing web server 14 downloads a VoIP support program to the customer computer 10 in step 220, wherein the VoIP support program converts the voice signal of the customer into the voice data according to the VoIP to transmit the converted voice data via the Internet 30 and converts the voice data transmitted via the Internet 30 into the voice signal to output the converted voice signal.
Then, the customer computer 10 transmits the identifier of the consultant terminal 20 to the telephone service providing web server 14, which reads out the telephone number of the consultant terminal 20 corresponding to the received identifier from the telephone number database. The telephone service providing web server 14 uses the read-out telephone number of the consultant terminal 20 to set the communication channel between the customer computer 10 and the consultant terminal 20 via the collect call telephone network in step 230. FIG. 3B is a window for showing
that the VoIP support program 60 is setting the communication channel between the customer computer 10 and the consultant terminal 20.
In step 240, when the voice information is transmitted or received between the customer computer 10 and the consultant terminal 20, the signal converting server 16 converts a speech tone transmitted from the collect call telephone network into a voice data to send to the telephone service providing web server 14, and converts a voice data transmitted from the telephone service providing web server 14 into a speech tone to send to the collect call telephone network.
Then, the operator of the collect call telephone network demands telephone charges based upon the telephone number of the consultant terminal 20 to the operator of the telephone service providing web server 14, and the operator of the telephone service providing web server 14 collects the related telephone charges from the web service provider or the telephone service provider corresponding to the individual consultant terminal 20. Hereinbefore, the present invention has bee described about the preferred embodiments thereof. It should be understood by those skilled in the art that a number of modifications and variations can be made without departing from substantial features of the invention. Therefore, the disclosed embodiments should be considered in the aspect of illustration rather than restriction. It should be understood that the scope of the invention appears in claims rather than in the foregoing specification, and equivalents of the claims are included in the invention.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
According to the present invention, a direct conversation with the customer in charge of the web service provider can be obtained in a simple way that the customer can confirm more detailed requirements about articles via the direct conversation in purchasing the articles via an Internet shopping mall.
Also, the invention can be conveniently used when public offices or manufacturing industries want to provide administrative services or product related services.
