Abstract

A methodology for discovering extended capabilities of devices (112) in an electronic network (110) comprises a registry (412) that is configured to include one or more extended attributes (614) that each correspond to a different extended capability of a device (112) in the electronic network (110). A software module (312), such as an application program, may then access a particular extended attribute (614) to discover an extended application program interface (326) for effectively communicating with the extended capability of the device (112) in the electronic network (110).
