Abstract

The invention relates to a communications system for effecting the communication between a data processing device (2) and an automation unit (1). The aim of the invention is to provide a simplified operation of the automation unit (1) that is nearly independent of a special application program with special unit information concerning the automation unit (1). To this end, the invention provides that the automation unit (1) comprises a memory (4) for storing communications data for effecting the communication with an, in particular, standardized communications program (5). This results in the communications data being permanently associated with the automation unit (1), and the operating dialogs and/or communications protocols are always adapted to the respective automation unit (1). This enables a consequential use of uniform communications programs (5), for example, in the form of internet browsers and, as a result, enables, to an increased extent, the use of internet techniques for service and support in the environment of automation units (1).
