Abstract

Disclosed is a downhole video system (600) that is suitable for use with a standard wireline transmission line (661), without the need for coaxial or fiber optic cable. A downhole video camera (610) transmits a digitized video signal that may be multiplexed (650), with orientation (614), sound (612) and other telemetry data. At the surface, an enhanced video is displayed (649) simultaneously with processed sound to give an operator (699) a better understanding of the conditions downhole. In addition, multiple modes are provided, including a 'burst' mode to provide high resolution, full motion video, thereby circumventing the severe bandwidth limitation of standard electrical transmission lines.
