Description

"Aufbereitunosverfahren für alkalische Reiniger" "Preparation process for alkaline cleaners"
The invention is in the field of the technical cleaning of hard surfaces, in particular the cleaning of oiled or greased metal surfaces. It relates to a process for the preparation of oil or grease-contaminated alkaline cleaning baths for disposal or preferably for the at least partial return of the water phase to the cleaning bath.
Measures to extend the service life of cleaning baths are desirable for ecological and economic reasons. Such measures make it necessary to remove as much of the dirt as possible from the aqueous cleaner solution and to return it to the cleaner bath. The following substances are particularly considered as dirt introduced during the cleaning process: a) oils and fats, which may be present either in the emulsified or in the non-emulsified state, b) soaps which are formed in alkaline cleaning baths by hydrolysis of natural fats and oils and c) solids such as dust, chips, abrasion and pigments. A number of measures are known in the prior art for removing these contaminations and thus for extending the bath service life: oil separators (which only work with free, non-emulsified oils and require a certain settling time until creaming), hydrocyclone (simple centrifugal separator) for solids and oil separation), separator (centrifugal separator for oil separation and sludge removal), magnetic separator (for removing magnetic impurities such as chips, abrasion and sinter from iron), filters (such as drum or belt filters for separating solids) and membrane filtration processes such as For example, ultra or microfiltration, with which oils, fats and some surfactants are retained. When cleaning oiled or greased metal parts such as metal strips, the oils and fats that have been detached and at least partially emulsified in the cleaning solution, as well as soaps resulting from hydrolysis, represent the main group of contaminants in the cleaning solution. COD) are to be recorded, the basic COD content attributable to the surfactant content of the cleaning bath being taken into account, if appropriate. The removal of oils and greases from contaminated cleaning baths with 01 separators or separators presupposes that these contaminants are in non-emulsified form. Such measures are therefore only successful with non-emulsifying or only weakly emulsifying cleaners, but these have the disadvantage of reduced cleaning ability. Furthermore, dissolved soaps, which can also have an emulsifying effect, cannot be removed by such measures. In contrast, membrane filtration processes are also suitable for removing emulsified oils or fats and, in part, soaps. The application of strong oil or fat-containing cleaning solutions to the membranes, however, generally leads to a low membrane flow and to rapid membrane blocking, so that such processes are preferably carried out for post-treatment of the water phase of an upstream emulsion splitting.
The object of the invention is to provide a process for the economical processing and / or regeneration of organically contaminated, strongly emulsifying alkaline cleaners in which the bath care measures described above do not reliably lead to the desired success. Ready-to-use alkaline cleaning solutions have pH values above 9, usually above 12, which is due to a builder system consisting of alkalis, silicates and / or alkaline phosphates or borates. For better oil or fat removal, the cleaners generally contain nonionic and / or preferably anionic surfactants. Due to their emulsifying power, these surfactants make cleaning tasks easier, but for the same reason make bathroom care measures more difficult. Emulsifying hydrolysis products from oils or fats work in the same direction.
This object is achieved by a process for working up and / or regenerating contaminated alkaline cleaners, characterized in that a) the contaminated cleaning solution is mixed with one or more cationic organic flocculants or emulsion splitters and after a reaction time of 5 to 60 minutes, b) fed to a separator or decanter system for carrying out the phase separation and c) the water phase in whole or in part returned to the detergent bath or sent for further disposal.
Auflage 1972, Band 2, S. 208 - 220.Separators or decanters (also known as decanting centrifuges) are special types of centrifuges that enable the continuous separation of material with different densities by centrifugal force. The different embodiments are generally known in chemical process engineering, see, for example, Ullmanns Encyklopadie der Technische Chemie, Verlag Chemie, 4th Edition 1972, Volume 2, pp. 208-220.
A large number of cationic organic flocculants or emulsion breakers which can be used in the process according to the invention are known in the prior art. For example, reference is made to: Kirk-Othmer "Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology" 3rd Edition 1980, John Wiley & Sons, Volume 10, pp. 489-517, in particular table pp. 502/503. The effect of the cationic flocculants or emulsion splitters (in the following partially summarized under the term "reagent") is based on the fact that negative surface charges of the suspended particles or the emulsified droplets are neutralized, so that agglomeration into larger flakes or one Coalescence to larger drops can occur. Accordingly, substances of the same substance class are in principle suitable both as flocculants and as emulsion splitters (see, for example, loc. Cit., P. 494). The most suitable substances from the substance class of the cationic organic flocculants or emulsion breakers must each be selected empirically for the separation problem currently present.
Besonders geeignet sind kationische Aminverbindungen aus den GruppenCationic amine compounds from the groups are particularly suitable
A) quaternary pyridinium or ammonium salts or betaines with at least one alkyl radical having 6 to 22 carbon atoms and / or B) tertiary or quaternary polyamines with average molecular weights between 50,000 and 250,000 DaHon.
A single reagent or a mixture of different reagents can be used in the process according to the invention. Since the optimal reagent depends both on the surfactant system of the detergent bath and on the type of dirt introduced, the person skilled in the art will carry out orientative tests with different reagents.
Suitable flocculants or emulsion breakers from group A) are, in particular, those which are selected from N-alkylpyridinium salts with an alkyl substituent with 10 to 16 carbon atoms, trimethylalkylammonium salts with an alkyl radical with 10 to 18 carbon atoms. Atoms, dimethylbenzylalkylammonium salts with an alkyl radical with 10 to 16 carbon atoms, diethyl dialkylammonium salts with two identical or different alkyl radicals with 6 to 12 carbon atoms each, and dimethylalkylammonium betaines with an alkyl radical with 8 to 18 carbon atoms.
Als polymere kationische Flockungsmittel oder Emulsionsspalter der Gruppe B) sind insbesondere solche geeignet, die ausgewählt sind aus Polymeren mit den Baugruppen Suitable polymeric cationic flocculants or emulsion breakers of group B) are, in particular, those which are selected from polymers with the assemblies

The amount of reagent required is also dependent on the detergent bath to be processed and must be determined by means of orientation tests. In general, the flocculants or emulsion breakers are effective in total concentrations of 500 to 25,000 ppm with respect to the contaminated cleaning bath. In the case of normally loaded detergent baths, it is to be expected that the optimum concentration of the flocculant or emulsion splitter with respect to the loaded detergent bath is in the range from 1,000 to 10,000 ppm.
The temperature of the cleaning bath to be worked up or regenerated should be in the range from 30 to 80 ° C. during the addition of the flocculant or emulsion splitter to the subsequent reaction time. Lower temperatures lead to less effective flocculation or emulsion cleavage, higher temperatures bring no further advantage which would outweigh the increased energy expenditure. In general Tem¬ are temperatures in the range of 35 to 50 C β sufficient. The required amount of flocculant or emulsion splitter can be optimized through a series of preliminary tests on a laboratory scale. The optimally determined amount of reagent is preferably added to the reaction container in portions, which can be done, for example, automatically from a storage container by using a piston or membrane pump. However, it is also possible, without preliminary tests, to add the reagent to the reaction container in portions or continuously and to determine the end point of metering by one of the methods known in the prior art. For determining the dosing point, for example, the following can be considered: measurement of the viscosity (decrease in viscosity at the dosing end point), measurement of the zeta potential or of the electrokinetic flow potential (for which a value close to 0 generally indicates the dosing point) or the Measurement of the light transmittance of the bath solution (increased light transmittance at the metering point).
During the addition of the flocculant or emulsion splitter, the liquid to be worked up must be mixed, preferably stirred. The optimum stirring speed and the optimal shape of the stirrer depend on the size and shape of the reaction vessel and must be determined empirically at the beginning. When using conventional blade or propeller stirrers, the optimal stirring speed is in the range from about 100 to 300, in particular 150 to 250 revolutions per minute (rpm). If the stirring speed is correctly selected, the product distribution is uniform, on the one hand, and flocculation or the splitting process, on the other hand, are not restricted in terms of redispersion.
After the addition of the flocculant or emulsion splitter has ended, it is advisable to observe a reaction time of approximately 10 to approximately 30 minutes, in particular approximately 15 minutes, to complete the formation of flocs or the emulsion cleavage. This can be done without stirring. However, it is more favorable to let the agitator continue to run at a reduced speed, for example at about 10 to about 30 rpm, since this has a positive effect on the formation of flakes.
After the reaction time has ended, the liquid phase can be fed to the separator or decanter system for carrying out the phase separation. To the To be able to operate the decanter or separator continuously, it is preferable to provide a second reaction container in which the cleavage reaction takes place while the contents of the first reaction container are passed through the separator or decanter. Another preferred alternative to this is to provide a sufficiently large storage container between the reaction container and the separator or decanter, from which the separator or decanter can be charged uniformly with the liquid phase.
To carry out the method according to the invention, it is necessary to operate the separator or decanter system under special conditions: the system must generate a radial acceleration of at least 6,000 g, with a radial acceleration of above 8,000 g being preferred. An upper limit of the radial acceleration is given by the design of the device. Adequate residence time of the liquid phase in the separator or decanter system must also be ensured. A minimum dwell time of 15 seconds is required for effective phase separation. A dwell time of at least 20 seconds provides better results. The temperature of the liquid phase during the phase separation in the separator or decanter system should likewise be in the range between 30 and 80 ° C., in particular between 35 and 50 ° C.
The separated solid phase is preferably discharged periodically from the separator or decanter. An optionally separating oil phase and the purified aqueous phase are preferably removed continuously. Solids and oil are disposed of. The further treatment of the water phase largely freed from solids and oils depends on the specific application of the method. If the entire detergent bath is intended to be disposed of, the method can be used as a pretreatment stage for wastewater treatment. As a result, organic impurities are so largely removed that, after neutralization, the water phase can be discharged into a sewage treatment plant without further treatment.
However, the method can also, and preferably, be used to regenerate the cleaning bath. The water phase is the whole or part back into the detergent bath. It is advisable to supplement the used cleaning chemicals and / or cleaning chemicals discharged with the solid or oil phase in the separator or decanter. As a bath care measure, the method is preferably operated in such a way that a portion of the detergent bath is removed and quasi-continuously regenerated, while the main part of the detergent bath remains ready for operation. This can be done, for example, in a by-pass. The measure of only returning a partial flow of the water phase from the separator or decanter, after supplementing it with fresh water and detergent chemicals, to the detergent bath and disposing of a further part flow prevents the detergent bath from being salted up and too strong Enrichment of impurities that cannot be separated, so that the service life of the cleaning bath can be extended considerably.
Hierfür geeignet ist beispielsweise das P3-MultancenterR der Henkel KGaA, Düsseldorf (Deutsch¬ land).Commercially available separators or decanters are suitable for carrying out the method, provided the required operating conditions mentioned above can be set with them. The P3 Multancenter R from Henkel KGaA, Düsseldorf (Germany) is suitable for this.
The invention further relates to the device with which the method according to the invention can be carried out. This device comprises at least one reaction vessel equipped with an agitator and a separator or decanter, which makes it possible to set a radial acceleration of at least 6,000 g and a dwell time of the liquid phase of at least 15 seconds. It is preferable for the reaction container to have a device for tempering the liquid phase, in particular a heater, in order to be able to set the temperature to the required range.
Spaltungs¬ endpunkt erkennt. The flocculant or emulsion splitter can in principle be added to the reaction container by hand. However, it is preferable to connect the reaction container to a device for metering in the flocculant or emulsion splitter. Such a device can consist, for example, of a storage container and a pump, for example a diaphragm or piston pump. The pump is preferably included equipped with a control system that makes it possible to preselect the amount of flocculant or emulsifier to be metered. Alternatively, the pump is controlled by a sensor element that detects the flocculation or cleavage end point.
Since the splitting or flocculation takes place in batches in the reaction vessel and the separator or decanter should preferably be operated continuously, it is preferable for the entire device to comprise several vessels. These can either be a plurality of reaction containers, the contents of one container being fed to the separator or decanter, while the flocculant or emulsion splitter and / or the after-reaction are added in the second container or in the further containers. Switching between individual containers can then take place automatically.
As an alternative to this, it is possible to provide a storage container between the reaction container or containers and the separator or decanter, the volume of which is dimensioned such that it is filled batchwise from the reaction container or containers, but the liquid phase is continuously added to the separator or decanter can be supplied. The storage container thus also serves as a buffer container. In addition, such a storage container makes it easier to supply the separator or decanter with the liquid phase under uniform pressure, which makes it easier to maintain the required operating state of the separator or decanter. In order to avoid undesired sludge formation in the receiver, this can be equipped with a slow-running (approx. 10 to approx. 30 rpm) agitator.
The reaction vessel is preferably shaped in such a way that it tapers conically at its lower end and has an outlet for sludge at the tip of the cone, so that the heavy solids already deposited in the reaction vessel, such as metal abrasion or scale, can be removed . If coarse impurities get into the detergent bath via the material to be cleaned, it is recommended to provide a sieve between the detergent bath and the reaction container to remove coarse dirt. The method according to the invention was tested on a plant for the technical cleaning of strip steel. The cleaner bath was operated with a strongly alkaline cleaner based on sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate (P3-percy R 645, Henkel KGaA, Düsseldorf). The steel strip to be cleaned was greased with palm fat. The contaminated cleaner had a chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 20,383 mgÜ2 / l.
The COD-contaminated cleaning solution was brought to a temperature of 40 ° C. in a reaction vessel with a stirrer, which was set to about 200 rpm. A 50% strength by weight aqueous solution of a cationically modified polyamine (ferrolin R 8686, Henkel KGaA, Düsseldorf) was added to the cleaner solution in portions, with stirring, until a splitting agent concentration of about 2,500 ppm was reached. After the splitting agent had been added, stirring was continued at a stirrer speed of about 20 rpm for 15 minutes, after which the liquid phase was moved at 40 ° C. over a commercially available separator (P3-Multancenter R , Henkel KGaA, Düsseldorf) separated water phase had a COD value of 3,100 mgθ2 / l and was returned to the cleaning bath.
In a comparative experiment, the COD-contaminated cleaning bath was run over the separator at 40 ° C. without the addition of an emulsion splitter or flocculant under the same operating conditions. Only a 10% reduction in COD was achieved.
In both experiments, the separator was operated in such a way that it produced a radial acceleration of approximately 8,000 g and that the residence time of the liquid phase was approximately 20 seconds.
