UT STAT S PATENT a FFCE.
JAMES W. BREEDLOVE, OF MULDROW, OKLAHOMA.
MEAT-HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES 1V. BREEDLOVE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muldrow, in the county of Sequoyah and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invent-ion is a meat-holding device, and consists of a circular rod about 1 inch in diameter and about at feet long, adjust-ably secured by keepers to a meat block, and of a meat-holder working on the up er end of said rod, consisting of an arm, fingers and pins as described and claimed. As a modification, the last-mentioned arm has but one finger provided with teeth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. 2, is a perspective view. Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 1, is a perspective view of the arm, provided with but one finger having teeth.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In describing my invention I designate the right-hand sides of the drawings as the for ward ends.
My invention is described as follows :-In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 represents a butchers block, which may or may not be mounted on legs; 2, represents a keeper secured to the periphery and upper end of said block. Said keeper is provided with an upper flange 3, which is secured to the upper end of said block by screws 41. Said keeper is also provided with a lower flange 5, secured to the periphery of said block. Extending outwardly from said upper flange 3, is an arm 6, provided with a vertical sleeve 7. There is also secured to the lower end, and periphery of said block, a keeper 8. This keeper is immediately on a vertical line under keeper 2, and is provided with a lower flange 9, secured to the under end of said block, and with an upper flange 10, secured to the periphery of said block. Extending outwardly from said keeper is an arm 11, provided with a perforation. This perforation is immediately under the sleeve 7, so that when the rod is passed through said sleeve and perforation it will stand perpendicularly. Adjustably secured in said sleeve, and said perforation, is a cylindrical rod 13. The upper end of said cylindrical rod is corrugated nearly down to the upper I keeper 2, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Slidably fitted on the upper end of said rod 13, is an arm 14; the rear end of said arm is divided into two short arms 15, one above the other. The upper arm is provided with a sleeve 16, and the lower arm with a similar sleeve 17. The forward and upper edges of the walls of the sleeves 16 and 1'7, extend upwardly and rearwardly, forming teeth 18, which, when the forward end of the arm 14L, and the fingers 19, weigh upwardly, said teeth catch in said corrugations and prevent said arm and fingers from slipping up. The rear and lower edges of the wall of the sleeves 1(3 and 17 extend downwardly and forwardly forming teeth 18 which, when the forward end of the arm 1 1 and the fingers 19 weigh upwardly, said last mentioned teeth catch in said corrugated teeth and as sist teeth 18 in preventing said arm and fin gers from slipping up. To raise said arm and fingers, the forward end of said arm is lowered a little and this releases the bite of said teeth and permits the said arm and finmeat. Said arm has hinged to each side thereof fingers 19, the free ends of which are provided with sleeves 20, and the free end of the arm 14, is also provided with a sleeve 20. Slidably fitted in said sleeves are pins 21, adjustably secured therein by means of lhumbscrews 22. The said rod 13, is slidably secured in the vertical sleeve 7, and perforation 12 of arm 11, by means of thumb screws The arm 1 1 shown in Fig. 1, is just the same as the arm shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, except it is not provided with swinging arms nor sleeves or pins, but is provided with a bowed extension 21, having extending from its under face teeth 25. This last mentioned meat-holder is intended as a modifieation.
I may do entirely away with the upper flange 3, and secure the keeper 2, alone by the lower flange 5.
In order to secure the meat on the top of the block that it may be sawed or cut, I let the holding device down on the meat, and when the meat is cut or sawed I raise the holding device up out of the way, and may swing it around out of the way.
Although I have specifically described the combination, construction and arrangement of the several parts of my invention I do not confine myself particularly to such spegers to slide up and thereby release the cific combination, construction and arrangement, as I may make such changes and modi fication therein as may clearly fall Within the scope of my invention, and which may be resorted to without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of my patentable rights therein. 7
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A meat-ho1ding device, consisting of a block; a keeper, consisting of upper and lower flanges, and vertical sleeve, secured to the upper end and periphery of said block; a keeper consisting of an upper and lower flange and perforated arm secured to the lower end of said block; a corrugated rod, slidably secured in said keepers; an arm divided at its rear end into two short arms, one above the other, terminating in sleeves, the forward faces of the inner walls of said sleeves having upwardly extending teeth; the rear faces of the inner walls of said short arms having downwardly eX- tcnding teeth; the forward end of said arm provided with a sleeve; swinging fingers, hinged to said arm, the free ends of said fingers and said arm terminating in sleeves, and pins adjustably secured in said sleeves, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.-
2. A meat-holding device, consisting of a block; an upper keeper secured to the upper end and periphery of said block; a lower keeper secured to the lower end and periphery of said block; a corrugated rod, vertically and slidably secured in said keepers by thumb screws, an arm provided with rear short arms, sleeves in each short arm, inwardly, upwardly and downwardly extending teeth, in said sleeves, its front end provided with fingers and sleeves, and
pins adjustably secured in said sleeves, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
