To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JAMES BOTTRELL UREN and ARTHUR WVILLIAM ARMIT PHAIR, both subjects of the King of England, residing at Lillooet, in the county of Cariboo, Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Gun-Sights and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to sights for firearms; the object of our invention is to provide a sight which is readily and easily detachable; a further objectis to provide a sight the connecting parts of which are always secured to the barrel of the firearm leaving the sight proper removable; a further object of our invention is to provide a construction which is dust-proof; and, our invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated, described and claimed.

In the accom anying drawings, forming a part of this app ication, we have illustrated one form of embodiment of our invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the sight, showing its application to the barrel of a firearm; Fig. 2 is a central vertical section, illustrating the sight proper in elevation and showing its supportmg means connected to the barrel of a firearm; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken approximately on line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken ap proximately on line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the sight proper.

Referring to the drawings 6 designates the barrel of a firearm provided with a dovetailed slot 7 adapted to receive a dovetailed lug 8 formed on the bottom of a supporting member or block 9. The upper horizontal edges of the block 9 are provided with flanges 10 and the block is provided with a vertical bore or opening 11 disposed centrally thereof and extending from its upper to its lower surface. In this bore 11 is disposed the lug 12 formed on the under surface of the sight 13 which is of the same width as the distance between the flanges 1 0 and is disposed between said flanges and is provided with a curved top 14 having a sight edge.

The sides of the lug 12 are provided with recesses 15 the upper walls 16 of said recesses being parallel with the under surface of the sight 13 and the lower walls 17 of said recesses being inclined and both of said walls having beveled edges. The block or supporting member 9 is provided with a horizontal bore 18 extending from one end to the vertical bore 11 and for a portion of its length is provided with screw-threads 19 adapted to receive a screw-threaded socket 20 provided with an opening 21 therein and adapted to slidably receive a pin 22. The outer end of this pin is provided with a nut 23 having a milled edge whereby said pin 22 may be retracted. The 0 posite end of the pin 22 is provided with a bifurcated portion 24 terminating in the tapered arms 25, said arms being of a form adapted to fit into the recesses 15 on either side of the lug 12 formed on the lower portion of the sight 13. Intermediate of its ends there is disposed on said pin a helical brass spring 26 one end of which thrusts against the bifurcated end 24 and the opposite end of which thrusts against the socket 20 whereby said tapered arms are kept normally in engagement with the lug 12 of the si ht, but may be retracted by means of the milled nut 23.

In order to remove the sight the pin 22 is retracted withdrawing the tapered arms 25 may be lifted out leaving its supporting parts attached to the barrel of the firearm. If desired a plurality of sights of different colors may be provided.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is;

1. In a device of the character described, a supporting block, means for rigidly securing the block to the barrel of a firearm, a sight provided with a lug having recesses therein the lower Walls of said recesses being inclined and slidable means carried by the block and adapted to engage in said recesses and lock said sight to the block.

2. In a device of the character described, a supporting member, means for rigidly securing the supporting member to the barrel of a firearm, a sight carried by the supporting member, a pin provided with a bifurcated extremity and adapted to lock the sight on the supporting member, and a spring-adapted to actuate the pin.

3. In a device of the character described.

.from the recesses 15 whereby the sight 13 a supporting member, means for rigidly securing the supporting member to the barrel of a firearm, a sight carried by the supporting member and provided with recesses having inclined lower Walls, a pin provided With a bifurcation having one of its sides inclined and adapted to engage, the inclined Walls of said recesses, and means for normally causing said pin to engage the sight.

4. In a device of the character described, a supporting member, means for rigidly securing the supporting member to the barrel of a firearm, a sight carried by the sup orting member, and a pin slidably disposer in the supporting member and provided at one end with a milled nut and at its other end With a bifurcation adapted to engage the sight.

5. In a device of the character described, a supporting block provided With a vertical bore and With a horizontal bore, a sight provided With a lug disposed in the vertical bore, a pin slidably disposed in the horizontal bore, a spring disposed on the pin, a

member disposed in the horizontal bore and adapted to guide the pin and receive the thrust of the spring, and a retracting member on the pin.

6. In a device of the character described, a supporting block provided With a vertical bore and With a screw-threaded horizontal bore, a sight provided With a lug disposed in the vertical bore, a pin slidably disposed in the horizontal bore, a spring disposed on the pin, a screw-threaded socket in the horizontal bore provided With an opening therein adapted to guide the pin, said socket being adapted to receive the thrust of the spring, and a retracting member on the pin.
