Patented April 3, 1908.
Applicaticn .illed August 21, 1905. Serial Nq. 275,128. v
To all whom, it may concern:
`Beit lmown that I, HARVEY' WILSON THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States,
' residing at Pitman Grove, in the county of .pads 1n proper' position.
Gloucester and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparel-Pads and Ido declare-the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as4 will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper'tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in apparel-pads or bust-formare. v
he o ject of the invention is to rovide a of light gielding non-absorbent material which mag e lformed in the desired shape and whic device of this character constructe may be worn without producing any injurious effects or discomfort.
A further object is to provide a -covering or pocket for the pads from which the same may be readily removed and by which the same will be securely inclosed without the use oi buttons or other faste devices, means being providedto adjustab y connect the coverings or pockets together to hold the With the above and other objects in view the invention consists iof certain novel features of-.constructiom combination, and arran ement of parts, as will be hereinafter descri ed and claimed.
In the'accompanyin drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the oc ets or coverings ,containing thepads. ig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the two pads and coverings,
v taken immediately above the adjustable confrom its casing.
ings, 1, denotes t nection of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional. view. through one of the pads and `its covering or pocket, and Fi 4 is adetail perspective view of one of t e pads removed Referring more articularly to the drawiie pads, which may be formed of any suitable material but which are preferably constructed of res' ent or elastio non-absorbent material which is li ht 1n weight and may be formed in any, esired shape to su ply defects or deformities ofthe person, sai pads presenting a natural a pearance bot to the sight and touch, t e construction of the same being such that they may be conveniently and comfortabl); worn without ill eiects or injury. The pa are here shown and are preferably constructed of sponge or multicellular rubber and of the'pro er shape for'use as bust-forms, and v While so s own it is obvious that they may be made in any desired shape to form ads for su lying defects of any part lof the `ody.
en 'arranged for use, the pads 1 are adapted to be supported and inclosed in a suitable covering, said covering being here shown and isreferably constructed of thin washable fabric and in the form of pockets 2, sha ed to receive the pads. The pockets 2 pre erabl consist of an integral back iece 3 and two ont pieces 4 and 5, having tllie necessary fullness to lprovide space for the pad. The front pieces 4 and 5 are preferably stitched around their outer edges to the edge of the back'piece 3, each of said front pieces being of asize considerably greater than onehalf the back piece, so that when the front pieces are arran ed'thereon the inner -e es of said pieces l overlap to a considera le distance, as shown, thus providing a secure closure for the pocket without the use of buttons or other securing devices and at vthe same time roviding for the easy removal of the ads w en desired.
en pads are constructed in the form herein shown, the are preferably secured toether by a suitable-connecting device, said evice being here shown as consisting of an elastic strap 6, Vone end, of which is secured to one ofthe pockets 2. The opposite end of the stra 6 is adapted to' be engaged with a olas or uckle 7, secured to the of t e other oclet, thereby forming a yielding adjustab e connection between the two pads.
By constructing the pads inclosin the saine as herein shown and describe the pads may be quickly removed, and both the pads and the covering washed and cleansed. a V
From the fore oing description, taken in connection with t e accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invenquirmg a more extended explanation.
Various-changes in the form, proportion, and the mmol' details of construction may be 'resorted to without departing from the prinrciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
