To all whom it nwty concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. WAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at C0- lumbia, in the county of Richland and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Infants Diapers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to infants diapers.

The invention aims to provide a new and improved infants diaper, as hereinafter more specifically described, and provided with means constituting a urine-deflector which directs the urine into a combined excrement thereby preventing the infants garments from'becoming soiled.

The invention further aims to provide the diaper with means constituting a combinedexcrement-receiver having a directing top, so as to cause the excrement from the bowels to flow into the body of the receiver, thereby preventing the infant s garments from becoming soiled.

The invention further aims to provide an infants diaper so constructed as to be readily applied and retained in position, efficient in use, durable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of arts hereinafter more specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appende v In the drawings, wherein reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an infants diaper in accordance with this invention. A diaper in accordance with the invention comprises a urine-deflector which is adapted to be arranged in suitable relation with respect to the urinal organ, a combined excrement and urine receiver communicating with the urine -deflector and adapted to be arranged in suitable relation with respect to the anus of the wearer, so as to receive the excretion of the bowels, means for securing or retaining the diaper in position when used, and means for preventing any overflow from the Letters Patent.

receiver soiling any object when the child is recumbent. The urine-deflector is formed of any suitable impervious material and is somewhat pear-shaped in contour, is open, as at 1, and the remaining portion, which forms what may be termed the neck of the deflector, is indicated by the referencenumeral 2. The open portion of the deflector is adapted to receive the urinal organ and when in position rests against the body of the wearer. The top of the receiver is provided with a pair of tabs 3, to which are connected the attaching-straps 4, which are adapted to be secured to the infants shirt,- thereby retaining what may be termed the upward portion of the diaper in position. The deflector at its upper end is provided with a pocket 3 which is adapted to receive the urine when the child is crawling or is on its hands and knees, consequently preventing the urine from overflowing from the deflector, and immediately upon the child resuming an upright position, or nearly so, the urine will'fiow out of the pocket 3 and be deflected into the receiver, to be hereinafter referred to.

The combined excrement and urine rec'eiver consists of a hollow body portion 5,

which at its top is somewhat in the form of an equilateral triangle and is provided at that top side which opposes the neck 2 of the urine-deflector with a forwardly-projecting neck 6, which forms an inlet for the urine as the said receiver communicates with the deflector through the medium of a conduit 7, which has one of its ends extending into the neck 2 and the other of its ends extending into the neck 6. The conduit 7 is provided at that end which opens into the receiver with a flap-valve 7 which opens toward the receiver, and the function of the valve is to prevent the contents of the receiver passing into the conduit when the child crawls or is on its hands and knees. The receiver is provided with a top 8, which is formed integral with the body portion5 and depends within the said body portion. The top 8 is substantially concave in crosssection and is provided with a hollow neck 9, which forms an inlet for the body portion 5. The contour of the top 8 is such that it will direct the excretion toward the hollow neck 9, so that the excretion will be caused to pass into the body 5. The shape of the top 8 is such that it substantially prevents the spilling of the excretion, as well as the urine, after the passage thereof into the body portion 5. The body portion 5 is what may be termed bagshaped and may be of any preferred depth, and the body portion 5, as well as the top 8, is formed of impervious material. When the receiver is to be emptied, the same is inverted and the neck 9 is drawn out, as shown in Fig. 4, which permits the contents of the receiver to pass outwardly therefrom. The receiver when in position is adapted to fit the anus of the infant in such a manner that if the infant should pass an excretion from the bowels it will immediately be directed into the receiver, consequently preventing annoyance to the infant by the chafing of the anus or other parts, and the said receiver is retained in such position through the medium of the attaching-straps 11, which are connected at one end to the receiver and at their other ends are adapted to be secured to the infants shirt, thereby retaining what may be termed the lower portion of the diaper in position. To prevent any possible overflow from the receiver soiling any object when the infant is in a recumbent position, an impervious shield 12 is provided which is secured to that top side of the receiver opposite to that side of the receiver where the neck is situated, and the said shield 12 is arranged at the rear of as well as secured to the straps 1 1. The shield 12 is preferably about three inches in width, so as not to extend the entire length of the straps 11.

From the foregoing description of infants diaper it is evident that a diaper is set up having as a part thereof means for immediately deflecting the urine away organ, thereby preventing chafing or scalding, as well as of preventing the infant's garments being soiled, also having as a part thereof means acting as a receiver not only for the urine, but also of the excretion of the bowels, said receiver being so constructed as to prevent normally the overflow of its contents. Consequently the infants garments will not be soiled.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, and a urine-deflector communicating therewith.

2. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver having a neck, a urine-deflector having a neck, and a from the urinaryv conduit having the into the said necks.

3. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, a urinedefiector communicating therewith, and a shield connected to said receiver.

4. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver having a neck, a urine-deflector having a neck, a conduit, having the ends thereof extending into the said necks, and a shield connected with said receiver.

5. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, a urine deflector communicating therewith, attaching-straps connected with the deflector, and attaching-straps connected with the receiver.

6. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, and a urine-deflector communicating therewith and provided with a pocket.

7. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver having a neck, a urine-deflector having a neck, and a conduit having the ends thereof extending into the said necks and provided with a valve at one end.

8. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver having a top portion provided with a neck adapted to be inverted to permit of the discharge of the contents of said receiver, and a urinedeflector communicating therewith.

9. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, having a top portion provided with a neck adapted to be inverted to permit of the discharge of the contents of said receiver, a urine-deflector, and a conduit for establishing communicaends thereof extending 'tion between said receiver and deflector.

10. An infants diaper comprising a combined excrement and urine receiver, having a top portion provided with a neck adapted to be inverted to permit of the discharge of the contents of said receiver, a urine-deflector, a conduit for establishing communication between said receiver and deflector, and a valve in said conduit.
