EXTENSION-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,540, dated June 14, 1904.
Application filed May 19,1903. Serial No. 157,765. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL M. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in extension-brackets, and has for its object, among other things, the construction of a bracket which can be extended both horizontally and vertically, as desired, as well as to make the same of few parts of simple design that can be economically manufactured and readily assembled.
To these and other ends my invention consists in the extension-bracket having certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures, Figure 1 is an elevation of my bracket complete. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the supporting-bar. Fig. 3 is a detailed View of one of the pins. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the wall-block. Fig. 5 is a sectional' view of the parts upon line A B of Fig. 1, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the parts upon line C D of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention I provid'ea supporting bar 1, which is provided with rounded ends 2 and a plurality of holes 3 therethrough. This bar is rotatably mounted in two wall-blocks 4, which are secured to the wall by screws or similar means, as shown in Fig. 1, the rounded portions 2 entering the holes 5 in said blocks. Parallel with the supporting-bar 1 is the vertical bar 6, which is movably secured thereto by the strap 7 fixed to the bar 1, and by the clip 8, fastened to the bar 6 and provided with inwardly-turned ends.
9, which slide in the grooves 10 in the bar 1. Rigidly secured to the vertical bar 6, at right angles thereto and in any preferred manner, is the horizontal bar 11, which is supported by a bar 12, fixed at either end in said bars 6 and 11. Parallel with said horizontal bar 11 and resting thereon is an extension-bar 13, which is secured to said bar 11 by the strap 14 and clip 15 in substantially the same manner as the bar 6 is secured to the bar 1.
To shift the position of the bracket, the bar 6, which slides through the strap 7 and is held from disengagement from the bar 1 by the clip 8, is elevated to its proper horizontal level, where it is there held bya pin 16, which is placed in any one of the holes 3 and upon which rests the lower end of the bar 6.
The extreme upward positions of the bars 6, 11, and 12 are shown by'broken lines in Fig. 1.
The extension-bar 13 is adapted to be moved horizontally upon the bar 11 to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and for convenience in supporting things upon said bracket a plurality of holes 17 are provided in both the extension-bar 7 and bar 11, within which is inserted a pin similar to the pin 16.
My invention is especially adapted for use in stables for cleaning harnesses, the harness being supported upon the extension-arm 13 or upon pins inserted through the holes 17, and after the upper part of the harness has been cleaned to avoid stooping to clean the lower portion of the harness the bracket is lifted to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position the lower portion of the harness is raised to such a level that it can be cleaned and operated upon without inconvenience or stooping, a further advantage from my construction being that when not in use the whole bracket can be swung out of the way against the wall, thereby requiring the smallest possible space.
I am aware that extension-brackets have been heretofore made, and therefore do not claim my construction broadly.
There are many minor changes and alterations that can be made within my invention aside from those herein shown and suggested, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of my invention.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
10 tion of a pin or peg; a strap; and a clip ennbracing each of said vertical and extension bars and movably securing said vertical bar to said supporting-bar and said extension-bar to said horizontal bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 5 presence of two Witnesses.
