Be it known that I, PARIS E. KENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellendale, in the county of Dickey and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Infants Diapers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in diapers; and its primary object is to provide a device having receivers of novel construction which are adapted to be held securely in position to receive urine and the excretion of the bowels.

A further object is to so construct these receivers as to prevent spilling of the contents thereof.

Another object is to employ means for adjusting the diaper for use upon persons of either sex and difierent sizes.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one form of receiver. Fig. {l is a similar view of a second form thereof. Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views of two forms of reservoir. Fig. 7 is a section on line 7 7 of Fig. 5. Fig. 8 is a top plan view of the bottom of the diaper. Fig. 9 is a bottom view thereof. Fig. 10 is a transverse section of Fig. 8. Fig. 11 is a detail view of the conveyer for drippings. Fig. 12 is a similar view of a navel or abdominal supporter.

Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is the body of the diaper, which is shaped to conform to the body of the wearer and which is adapted to be secured in position by means of a belt or strap 2, which fits about the waist. Secured upon this strap at the front is a pad 3, constructed of any suitable soft material and which may be used as a navel or abdominal supporter.

The diaper is provided with a double bottom-2'. e., an upper bottom 4 and a lower portion 5thereby forming a receptacle 6 for the reception of the excretion of the bowels.

An inlet 7 is formed in the top 4 of this re ceptacle and is adapted when it is in proper position to rest about the anus of the wearer. An annular flange 8 is arranged within the receptacle 6 and about the inlet 7, said flange being curved inward to prevent spilling of any liquid which may pass into the receptacle. Formed within the bottom 5 of the receptacle 6 is an outlet, which is adapted to be closed in any suitable manner, as by means of a plug or screw 9. A band 10 is secured to the front end of the receptacle 6 and is bifurcated at its free end, forming straps 11, which are adapted to be secured to the strap 2 at opposite sides of the wearer. An aperture 12 is formed within the band 10 below and adja' cent to the straps 11, and a groove or channel 13 is arranged between this opening and the inlet 7 of the receptacle 6. The band 10 is fastened to the receptacle 6, preferably by means of a lace 14, and a grooved tongue 15 extends from the band and rests within the groove in the top of said receptacle, thereby serving to conduct drippings from the band to the receptacle. Fitted within the opening 12 in the band 10is a receiver within which the. urinal organ is adapted to rest. The receiver is preferably formed of rubber and comprises two sections. The outer section 16 is tapered at opposite ends, as shown at 17, each of these ends being open. An aperture is formed in one face of this section and is adapted to receive the funnel-shaped outlet 18 of the inner section 19 of the receiver. An outwardlycurved flange 20 is arranged about the outer end of funnel 1S and is adapted to be overlapped by the walls of section 16. The inner end of funnel 18 is preferably arranged nearly in alihement with the ends 17. The outer section 16 of the receiver is adapted to be inserted into an aperture formed within one face of a reservoir 21. This reservoir is formed of any suitable material, preferably rubber, and may be made in the form of a sack, as shown in Fig. 5, or in the shape of a pan. (See Fig. 6.) In either case an outlet is provided, the same being closed by means of a cap 22 or any other suitable'manner.

In Figs. 3 and 4 I have illustrated two forms of receiver, the first-mentioned device being adapted for. use by a female, while the receiver shown in Fig. at is to be employed by a male. In the latter case the urinal organ is adapted to project into the funnel 18, the face of the receiver being concaved to fit comfortably to the wearer. By means of the lacing 14: the receiver 16 may be adjusted from or toward the receptacle 6 until the desired position is reached. By providing the groove 13 any liquid which for any reason fails to pass into the receiver will flow down into the receptacle 6. It will be understood that Water will flow from the receiver out of either of its outlets 17, according to the position of the person wearing the diaper. The liquid will then pass into the reservoir, from which it may be removed only by withdrawing the outlet-closure 22. It is impossible for the liquid to pass back through the funnel 18, and it will thus be seen that urine, as well as the excretions of the bowels, is retained out of contact with the body after once passing therefrom.

The parts of the diaper are preferably formed of rubber, so as to permit the same to fit snugly against and conform to the shape of the body, and, if desired, a suitable soft covering may be employed therefor to prevent chafing, &c.

The parts of the receiver are made of elastic rubber, so that the inner section 19 may be readily inserted into and held within the outer section before the rubber is snfficiently stiff to retain its form when under ordinary pressure. The receiver is provided in its wall and above the intersection 16 thereof with apertures 24, whereby air may pass outward from the reservoir and receiver when the same are in position.

In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. The combination with a body, of a waistbelt, a band formed with an aperture and bifurcated to form straps connected to said belt, a receiver supported by said band comprising an inner flanged section and an outer section provided with outlets; and a reservoir inclosing the receiver.

2. The combination with a body having means for securing the same in position, of a band having an aperture therein, a receiver secured within the aperture and comprising an outer section having an inlet, a flanged inner section, a funnel-shaped inlet to said inner section, and a reservoir iuclosing the outlets of the receiver.

3. The combination with a body portion having means for securing the same in position, of an adjustable band extending therefrom and having an aperture therein, a receiver supported by said band, a tapered inlet thereto, oppositely-arranged contracted outlets to the receiver, and a reservoir inclosing the receiver and suspended from the adjustable band.

4. The combination with a body portion having means for securing the same in position, of an adjustable band extending therefrom and having an aperture therein, a receiver secured within the aperture, an outer section having an inlet, oppositely-arranged tapered outlets thereto, a flanged inner section fitted within the inlet of the outer section, a funnel-shaped inlet to said inner section, and a reservoir inclosing the outlets of the receiver.

5. The combination with a body portion having a receptacle at the bottom thereof provided with an inlet, of a band adjustablysecured to said bottom and having an aperture therein, a receiver secured within the aperture, contracted outlets arranged at opposite sides thereof, and a reservoir inclosing .said outlets.
