PATENT WILLIAM RANSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GAM E APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 716,645, dated December 23, 1902.
Application filed June 19, 1902.
- silient ball.
The object of my invention is to provide a ball which may be used for playing games in the dark or at night.
The invention consists in the formation of a hollow ball, of celluloid or other flexible, elastic, or resilient material, in the interior of which is placed a suitable luminous material in order that the ball may be visible in the dark.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a ball embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a relatively enlarged sectional view of a fragment of a ball'embodying my invention.
This ball is preferably formed of a rather thin material-such as celluloid, rubber, or the likewhich is transparent, semitransparent, or translucent to a sufiicient degree to allow the light emanating from the luminous material inside to be visible from with- This ball is coated on the inside, as inout.
Serial No. 112,286. (No model.)
batted about or used as a ball of this character is customarily. There is therefore beside the ordinary adhesive force between the In minous material and the ball the strength of the material itself, which forms an arch. This advantage is considerable.
The use of this apparatus in a game or in any other way at night presents an extremely weird efiect and affords a means for playing games with an apparatus of this character in the dark.
The ball is durable, and since it is preferably of light Weight may be batted about, and is particularly adapted for the playing of table-tennis in the dark.
What I claim is V A game-ball comprising a hollow translucent sphere formed of flexible material and having a coating of luminous material within the sphere and protected thereby.
WILLIAM RANSOM.
