UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER IIOOGERZEIL, OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS.
LAM P-CHIMNEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 631,211, dated August 15, 1899-.
' Application filed March 9, 1899. Serial No. 708,403. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER HOOGERZEIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimneys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a new and improved lamp-chimney which can be readily cleaned, either end can be made to rest upon the lamp-burner, and a part of the chimney serves as a shade. This object is accomplished in the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the improved chimney. Fig. 2 represents a central longitudinal section on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1, showing the two sections in position for use; and Fig. 3 represents asimilar longitudinal section showing the sections disconnected.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
In the drawings, A and B represent the two sections of the chimney. One of the sections (the one marked A) is adapted to be received in the corresponding flaring portion of the section B, which latter is formed integral on its interior with an annular stop projection B, that serves as a rest for the flaring portion of the section A, as shown in the drawings.
a and b are the reduced upper and lower ends of the respective sections A and B, and said reduced ends are made equal in diameter and of like shape, so that either one of them may be placed in position on the lamp-burner, as may be desired.
The upper section A is composed of trans= parent glass and the lower section of opaque glass, either ground or colored, to serve as a shade.
By my construction the two parts can be separated to facilitate cleaning. The upper and lower ends of the chimney being identical in diameter and shape, either end can be made to rest on the lamp-burner. One of the sections serves as a shade. The sections can be readily nested for transportation, and if one section is broken or cracked it is only necessary to supply a new section and not the entire chimney.
What I wish to secure by Letters Patent and 1. A lamp-chimney consisting of two separable counterpart glass sections engaged one with the other centrallylof the chimney, and the two sections having contracted ends coequal in diameter and of like shape, substantially as shown.
2; A sectional glass lamp-chimney consisting of the lower opaque glass section B formed integral with the internal, annular projection B below its upper edge, and the upper transparent glass section A having its lower end inserted into the lower section, resting on said projection and removable therefrom, said sections having the contracted ends a and b coequal in diameter and of like shape, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER HOOGERZEIL.
