HAT AND COAT TREE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent no. 565,799, dated. August 11, 1896.
Application filed March 25, 1896. fierial No. 584,751. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD G. RIIMFORD, a citizen of the United $tates, residing in the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hat and Coat Trees, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention has for its object the ready separation of the tree into parts convenient for packing away or transportation, and the ready reassemblage of such parts when the tree is to be again used.
My invention is illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the tree, made in sections, joined together by screws. Fig. 2 shows a hinge connection between the pins and the tree and the feet and the tree.
Referring to Fig. 1, the body of the tree is made up of the sections a a a a and the base 04*, all adapted to be joined together by the screws 17 b b b which may be of either wood or metal. The pins c and the feetd are in like manner screwthreaded and thus adapted to be screwed into the body of the tree. It will thus be seen that the tree is readily separable into parts convenient for transportation and may as readily be reassembled.
y I may form both the pins and the feet of the tree, while its outward movement is limited by the projection t. The feet j are in like manner pivoted to the yokes 7t and are provided with projections Z, which limit their outward movement, while in inward movement they are permitted to assume a position parallel with the trunk of the tree.
It will be understood that the yokes e and 7c are adapted to be screwed into the trunk of the tree, thus permitting the ready insertion and removal of the hinged pins and feet.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new In a hat and coat tree, a tree-body formed in sections adapted to be screwed together in combination with pins and feet provided with hinges, adapted to be screwed into the treebody, substantially as shown and described.
EDWARD G. RUMFORD.
