UNITED STATES PATENT FFlCEQ SYLVESTER S. LEONARD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESN E ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE HALLET IRON \VORKS, OF SAME PLAGE.
CABLE-HANGER.
SPECIFIO'A'IION forming paart of Letters Patent N0. 551,504c1a13ed December 17, 1895.
Applioation filed August 8,1895. S6Iil N0. 558,632. (N model.)
T0 all whom z' may cuncern:
Be itsknown thau l, SYLVESTER S. LEONARD, a subjeec 0f the Queen 0f Great B1itain, resicling' ab Ohieago, in the county of Cook and 5 State of Illinois, have inventecl eertain new and useful Improvements in Cable-Hangers, of whieh the following is a specifica-tion.
My invention relates t0 certain improvements in cable-hangers such a s am usecl in xo suspencling telephone-cables ancl the like.
The objec 0f he inxenti0n is to provide a hanger Whieh can be qulekly ancl securely att-a-checl t0 a eable ancl the expense of which shall be rec'lueecl to a minimum.
T0 such encl Ehe invention consists in 210ertain new cleviee illust-mtecl in the drawings ancl clefined in the appenclecl elaims.
The drawings consist of f0u1 figu1es, of Which Figure 1 is a sicle elevac-ion of my im.-
provecl hanger applierl t0 a seetion of a cable. Figz 2 is a section in line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is afront elevation of the hanger, certain portions heing bloken away to show construction 5 an(l Fig. lis a cross-seetion 0f the hanger in line 4:, Fig.
In devices of this dass the cal les are sup ported bymeans 0f a streng snpporting-cable whieh is suspencled 'between p0sts along the 1ine anal proviclecl With sulcable hangers, which are hung upon the supporting-cable, thus 0&1- rying ehe weight of ehe tube and conductingwires which woulcl otherwise be broken f1om the stmin.
In uhe dmwings, A is a metal tube in whieh 3 5 the concluctingwires are plaeed, aml 13 the hanger. The hanger consists of a hook C adaptecl t0 he hookecl 0ver the suspenclingcable, a forked ortion D D extending toward. the tube, and a pieee E, whieh in erosssection is eurved t0 correspond with the periphery 0f the tube and whieh connects t-he ende of the fork D D. Upon t-he eross-pieces E me two lugs e e, zmd upon these is secured one en4l of a, strip of sheet metal 1*.
T'he strip is provided With hohes ff, fittecl to the lugs e e, (und the 0ther en(l :is slightlynarrower ancl adaptecl so be slipped into a sl0t g in apin G. 'lhis pin is providecl With a head g, zu stem g a-nd a portion g, adaptecl 130 be slippecl into 21 corresponding hole (Z in the arm D an (l prevent t-he furche1 rotation 0f the pin.
I have shown the portion g"' as hexagonal, he hole d being made to correspond herewith; but it is obvious that it is 110t neeessary that it be hexagonal, as any number cf sides ean 5 5 be usecl, it being essential tha-t the part and hole corresponcl in shape.
In seeuring the hanger to ehe tube, the strip is first hooked upon the lugs e=e, then passecl aronnd the tube and the sn1all encl insertecl in the slot g, the pin being dmwn f10m its loekecl position, so that the part g will be 0111; 0f engagement Wit-h the hole. A serewdriver is then appliecl t0 the pin aml the sa1ne 1'0- tated, the snip wouncl upon the pi11 until the tube is helcl firmly between the Same und cross-pieee E, when the pin is pushed in unil che pmt g is secnred in the hole (Z, thus holcling ehe tube seeurely 111 place.
This makes an extremely simple ancl effective hanger ancl 0110 which may be instantly appliecl 01 removed. 'lhe different pieees may he ehzmged without changing the principle 0f the deviee, aml I therefore de 11015 Clesi1e 150 limit myself t0 the exact eonstruetiou thereof, buc will more specifically point 0utin the following claims what I consicler t0 be new ancl necessary t0 the embodiment 0f my invent-ion.
I claim a s new ancl (lesire t0 secure by Lette1*s Patent l. T he eomhination in a hanger f01' eables, 0f a p01ti011 adapoecl c0 impinge up0n the cable, a strip 0f metal adapoed t0 encirele saicl cable, 011e end 0f said strip being removably 8 5 securetl to the hanger, a pin adapted so Wind up the other encl 0f the strip a-nd suitable means f0r loeking the pln in place; substau t-ially as deseribecl.
2, The eombination wlth a mahle 0f a suit- 0 a-b1e hange1g a pin journalecl in seid l1a-nger,
a St1ip of metal enei reli 11g Ehe cable Said strip adapted t0 be W0uncl up by the pin ancl suitable means f0r loeking the pin in place; substanoially as clescribed.
3. The eombination in a hange1: f01 cables a-nd the like, of a hookecl ortion aclapted to rest against the cable, a strip 0f. metal encircling the cable and removahly securecl t0 ehe hange1 ancl a pin journalecl in ehe hange1 2u1cl adapned t0 wincl up the strip, a portion 0f saicl pin being 0f such shape a-s t0 prevent its 1'0- taion in ios locked Position; substantially as described.
4. In a hanger f01 cables and the like the combination With the 1100k, O, fork, D, D, and cross-piece, E, 0f the strip, F, lugs, e, e, upon the cross-piece, the strip being provided With suitable holes f01 engagement With the lugs, the pin, G, journaled in the forks, D, D, s1ot, g, adapted [0 receive the end 0f the strip and the pin being provided With a ortion 01' 10 such cross seetion and resting in a corresponding hole whereby is rotation is prevented; substantially as describ ed.
