EXTENSION COPY-HOLDER AND REST.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,518, dated January 10, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. AMBRUSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented anew and useful Extension Copy-Holder and Rest, of which the followingis a specification.

My invention relates to an attach ment which can be applied to any writing machine and consists of an extension copy holder and rest.

The advantages Iclaim for this extension copy holder and rest are: First :A copy holder which can be attached to any Writing machine and which can be adjusted so as to hold the copy at any desired distance or angle from the eye; second z-When unfolded it provides a rest for the book or paper and the arm when taking dictation, thus obviating the necessity of the operator turning around to a desk or table when engaged in operating the machine and called upon to take additional dictation.

This extension copy holder'and rest is constructed with three folding arms (A, B and O) folding over each other as shown in Fig. 1; Arm A is attached to the bracket which supports the'rest and arm B is hinged to the lower end of arm A and arm 0 is hinged to the upper end of arm B. Arms A, B and O fold together as shown in Fig. 1 and when unfolded, to be used as a rest for the hand, A, B and O are in one plane as shown in Fig.

Like letters refer to like parts in all figures.

The extension copy holder and rest is illustrated in the accompanying drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the extension copy holder and rest as folded up to be used as a copy holder; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same when unfolded to full length to be used as a rest for the book and hand of the stenographer while taking dictation; Fig.3 is a section of a part showing the connection of the holder and rest to the usual stand, to be set upon the table or upon a bracket.

When the parts are folded together or unfolded they move freely upon the hinges which connect the parts.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with a copy holder, folding and unfolding arms, leaves or extensions, which may be folded together as one piece to form a copy holder, and unfolded to three connected sections to form a rest, for the use and purposes set forth, substantially as shown and described.

2. In combination with a copy holder, afolding support or rest for the hand and book, for the use and purposes set forth substantially as shown and described.

In a copy holder, the means of lengthening the same by unfolding the parts so as to form a rest for the hand while taking dictation, and a means of shortening the same by folding the parts together, substantially as shown and described.
