Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH REIDL, OF LEWISTON, IDAHO TERRITORY. I
NE CKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,436, dated June 4, 1889.
Application filed December 18, 1888. Serial No. 293,998- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH REIDL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewiston, in the county of Nez Perces and Territory of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in necktie-fasteners; and it consists in a certain novel construction and combination of devices, fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear view of a necktie provided with the improved fastener. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view taken parallel with the front of the tie and looking toward the rear. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line a: a; of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the front plate of the tie, which is secured to the edges of the rear plate B. The extensions or ends 0 G are arranged at their upper ends in rear of the front plate, and the rear plate is provided at its lower end with a metallic brace b, which is firmly secured to the rear side of the extensions or ends to hold the latter in position. v
D designates a facing plate or fold, which is secured at one edge to the upper edge of the rear plate and is carried forward and thence downward in rear of the front plate. This facing-plate thus forms a loop, through which is passed an intermediate part of the neckband E, which is designed to encircle the neck of the wearer. One end of the said band is preferably provided with a buckle F, to engage the other end, as shown. The rear plate is provided near its upper end with a triangular opening G, tapered toward its upper end, and in a suitable guide H, arranged on the inner side of the rear plate below the said opening is a slide or catch K, having a concavely-curved upper end. An S-spring L is arranged below the slide, bearing at its lower end on the brace b and at its upper end against the lower end of the slide, whereby the latter is norm ally held raised, so asto cover the openin g G. A vertical slot M is formed in the rear plate, and a button N bears on the outer side of the rear plate and is provided with a shank n, which is attached to the slide and operates in the said slot.
To engage the triangular opening G with the shirt-button 0, (shown in Fig. 3,) draw the button N downward until the slide is removed from the said opening, pass the button into the opening, and release the slide, whereupon its curved upper end will 'bear against the under side of the shank of the said collarbutton and force it into the upper angle of the opening G.
Having thus described the invention, I claim- 1. The combination, with a necktie which is provided in its rear side with opening G to receive the collar-button, of the spring-actuated slide or catch arranged adjacent to the said opening to close the same, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with anecktieprovided with an opening G for the collar-button and having a brace b below the said opening, of the vertically-movable slide or catch K, having a concaved upper end to close the opening G and provided with an operating-button N, and the S-sprin g L, connected at its upper end to the slide or catch and bearing at its lower end on the brace 12, whereby the slide or catch is normally held in its elevated or engaging position, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aifixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
