IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.

Be it known that I, ANDREW LEMUEL ADAMS, of Philadelphia, in the county ot' Philadelphia, inthe State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved iastener and movable leaf for pocketbooks, porte-monnaies, and bankers7 cases, or any other forni of book made for the purpose of' holding notes, papers, or bills of exchange; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon.

Figure l in the drawings is a perspective view from top of pocket-book. Fig. 3 is an end view of the same, showing the elastic gusset or band as attached to the several leaves or sections. Fig. 2 is a full front view showing the book closed with elastic gusset or band used-as an outside fastener to keep the lid or top of book in place.

a is one of the leaves or sections of book. B is the elastic gusset or band. C is the lid or top of thel book. D is the usual or ordinary mode of holding the leaves or sections in place.

The nature ot" my invention consists in inserting an elastic cloth or band or gusset in or through the several leaves or sections, as seen in Fig. 1, letter B, thereby avoiding the usual fastening of leather or other material, as seen in letter D, the same elastic gusset or band answering` for as many leaves or sections as may be inserted in the book, porte monnaies, or bankers case, or other purposes for which it maybe used, and also comprisingl y a fastener for the book, porre-monnaie, or bankers case when. closed, as seen in Fig. 2.

To enable others skilled in the art to make, use, and apply my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I construct my book in any otl the known forms, and apply the elastic gusset or band through an aperture made through the several leaves or sections, as seen in Figs. l and 2, letter B, and made fast on the inside of the leather apartment, as seen in letter D, obviating the necessity ot' ali the leaves or sections being open at one and the same time when opening the book, as is the case in the ordinary book, porte-monnaies, and bankers case.

What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Theimproved movable leaf, in combination with the outside fastening, the gusset or band to be made of elastic cloth or other material, as and for the purpose shown and described.
