CARRYING CASE FOR SPORTS KIT BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a sports kit and more particularly to a carrying case for a sports kit which is adapted to accommodate a vacuum bottle and a sandwich box.
Sports kits for carrying vacuum bottles and sandwich boxes are well known. Normally these kits are formed from a soft vinyl that is sewn and zippered to receive one or more vacuum bottles and/or a sandwich box. The stitching and zippering of the previously used type of kits adds considerably to their cost and their soft construction does not afford sufficient protection for the contained articles.
It is, therefore, a principal object of this invention to provide an improved sports kit.
Another object of this invention is to provide a low cost sports kit that may be formed from a rigid plastic.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A feature of this invention is adapted to be embodied in a kit for carrying a vacuum bottle and a sandwich box or the like. The kit comprises a case formed from a single piece of moulded plastic or the like and which defines a first opening configured to receive one of the vacuum bottle or sandwich box and a second opening contiguous thereto to receive the other of the vacuum bottle or sandwich box. A carrying handle is pivotally connected to the case. The carrying handle is pivotal from a first carrying position in which it spans one of the openings to a second position clear of the one opening for facilitating the insertion and removal of an object into and out of the one opening.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a carrying case for a sports kit embodying this invention.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged front elevational view, with a portion broken away, of the carrying case.
FIG. 2 is a top plan view.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The reference numeral 11 indicates generally a carrying case for a sports kit embodying this invention. The carrying case 11 is comprised of a case 12 formed from a blow moulded, high density, polyethelene material. The case 12 is generally hollow to provide a large interior cavity 13. A central portion 14 of the case 12 has a generally rectangular configuration and is encompassed on its opposite sides by portions 15 and 16. The portions 15 and 16 are of lesser height than the portion 14. The central portion 14 has a generally rectangular opening 17 formed in its upper wall which opening is configured to pass a sandwich box, (not shown). The portions 15 and 16 have generally circular openings 18 in their upper ends which are configured to pass vacuum bottles (not shown).
The upwardly extending part of the portion 14 is formed with alligned openings 19 on opposite sides of the opening 17. A handle 21, which is also formed from a moulded plastic material has a pair of inwardly extending projections 22 that are snap fit into the openings 19. The handle 21 by virtue of the aforedescribed construction is pivotal from an operative, carrying position as shown in the Figure in which it spans the sandwich box receiving opening 17 to a position in which it is spaced from this opening. In its spaced position, the sandwich box may be conveniently inserted into and removed from the opening 17.
The case 12 due to its blow moulded construction may have a textured configuration on its outer surface that simulates leather or any other material. Removable inserts may be used in the blow moulded die in the area of the portion 14 so that this portion may have a different surface texture than the remaining portion of the case 12.
It is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A sports kit for carrying vacuum bottles and a sandwich box or the like comprising a case formed from a single piece of molded plastic, said case defining a first, centrally placed opening configured to receive a sandwich box, second and third openings disposed on respective opposite sides of said first opening and each being configured to receive a vacuum bottle, said first opening being defined in part by upstanding walls extending from a point contiguous to said second and third openings whereby said first opening is positioned vertically above said second and third openings, said walls dividing said first, second and third openings from each other, and a carrying handle affixed to said case, said carrying handle having projections extending through apertures in said upstanding walls for pivotally connecting said carrying handle to said case, said apertures in saidupstanding walls being positioned contigu-.
ous to the center of the sides of said first opening, said handle being pivotal from a carrying position in which it spans said first opening to a second position clear of said first opening for facilitating the insertion and removal of a sandwich box from said first opening, said carrying handle being positioned clear of said second and third openings in each of its positions whereby vacuum bottles may be inserted and removed from said second and third openings regardless of the position of said handle.
2. A sports kit as set forth in claim 1 wherein the second and third openings are cylindrical and the first opening is rectangular.
3. A sports kit as set forth in claim 1 wherein the outer periphery of the case is textured.

Claims (3)

1. A sports kit for carrying vacuum bottles and a sandwich box or the like comprising a case formed from a single piece of molded plastic, said case defining a first, centrally placed opening configured to receive a sandwich box, second and third openings disposed on respective opposite sides of said first opening and each being configured to receive a vacuum bottle, said first opening being defined in part by upstanding walls extending from a point contiguous to said second and third openings whereby said first opening is positioned vertically above said second and third openings, said walls dividing said first, second and third openings from each other, and a carrying handle affixed to said case, said carrying handle having projections extending through apertures in said upstanding walls for pivotally connecting said carrying handle to said case, said apertures in said upstanding walls being positioned contiguous to the center of the sides of said first opening, said handle being pivotal from a carrying position in which it spans said first opening to a second position clear of said first opening for facilitating the insertion and removal of a sandwich box from said first opening, said carrying handle being positioned clear of said second and third openings in each of its positions whereby vacuum bottles may be inserted and removed from said second and third openings regardless of the position of said handle.
2. A sports kit as set forth in claim 1 wherein the second and third openings are cylindrical and the first opening is rectangular.
3. A sports kit as set forth in claim 1 wherein the outer periphery of the case is textured.
