UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN REIF, OF LEWIS TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN CLOVER-H ULLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,242, dated April 2|, 1863; autedatcd January 30, 1863.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN REIF, of Lzwis township, Union county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clover-Hullers; and ldo hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in an a ljustable cylinder with a screwconveyer and an adjustable wind-gate.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A is the conveyer or screw, that is located across the mill in an adjustable cylinder, 0. The cylinder, when intended to catch the grain, is turned slightly around, which raises the back edge, so as to catch the grain that might otherwise pass over and fall into the screenings below. As the grain falls down from the cloth elevator D, it is cleaned by the blast passing upward over the incline board E, and the grain falls into the cylinder 0 below,
when the screw-conveyer A carries it off into outside elevators.
To regulate the blast I have an additional incline board or wind-gate, G, which I adjust by a strap, H, and raise or lower the gate G. As the blast passes over this gate G, itis conducted np the incline boards G and E until it reaches the cylinder 0 and screw-conveyer A, where it separates the grain from the screenings and chaff, the grain passing into the conveyer A and cylinder 0, the chaff out behind, and the screenings into a drawer below.
The hulling-cylinder J, with its concave K, fan L, screens M, cloth elevator or apron D, are all old devices common to hulling or fanning mills.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adjustable cylinder 0, with its conveyer A, adjustable wind-gate G, and incline board E, when arranged and combined as herein described.
