5 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures PACKAGE HAVING DIMPLED BLISTER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The background of the invention will be set forth in two parts.
1. Field'of the Invention The present invention pertains generally to the field of packaging and more particularly to a package having dimpled blisters engaging a packaged article to hold it in position against a blister card.
2. Description of the Prior Art It is known to package doll costumes by affixing the costume to a blister card with thread, tape, staples or the like and heat seal a blister to the card around the peripherial edge of the blister.
OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a new and useful package having a dimpled blister including protuberances engaging an article contained within the package.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a package of the type described including a blister having dimples heat sealed to a blister card for caging loose articles between the protuberances.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a package of the type described including means for preventing colored ink or dye from bleeding from a blister card onto articles contained in the package.
According to the present invention, a blister card is surfaced with a suitable heat-scalable, high-coefficientof-friction material.
A loose pliable article, such as a doll costume, is placed on the card in an unattached condition and loose, small articles, such as doll shoes and the like, are also placed on the card.
A blister cover is then heat sealed to the peripheral edge of the card. The cover includes a plurality of uniformly spaced protuberances extending toward the blister card and engaging the costume for securing it in position on the card. Other protuberances may then be heat sealed to the card in the area surrounding the loose articles for caging them between protuberances. If desired, the tips of the protuberances may be coated with a high-coefficient-of-friction material to aid in re taining the costume in position.
The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The present invention, both as to its organization and manner of use, together with further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which i like reference characters refer to like elements in the several views.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a plan view of a package of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged, partial cross-sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is an enlarged, partial cross-sectional view similar to FIG. 2, but showing the parts of the package of the present invention before an article has been placed therein and before the blister cover has been heat sealed to the card.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring again to the drawing, a package constituting a presently-preferred embodiment of the invention, generally designated 10, includes a chip board or blister card 12, which may be made from any suitable material, such as cardboard, to which a suitable heat sealable, high-coefficient-of-friction surface 14 of latex or the like has been applied.
Package 10 also includes a blister cover 16 which may be formed by well-known vacuum-drawing methods from a suitable plastic material, such as polyvinylchloride.
Cover 16 is provided with a plurality of depending, frusto-conical protuberances 18 having an open top 20 and a closed bottom wall 22. As shown in FIG. 4, protuberances 18, which will sometimes be referred to herein as dimples, are of sufficient depth that the pe ripheral flange 24 of cover 16 will not normally engage blister card 12 when protuberances 18 are in engagement therewith.
Referring now to FIG. 1, if desired, cover 16 may be provided with an upstanding pocket 26 adapted to capture a small article28 when cover 16 is heat sealed to blister card 12 around the peripheral area 30 of the pocket 26. Also, if desired, the tips of dimples 18 may be coated with a suitable high-coefficient-of-friction material 34, such as latex, as shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4.
A suitable article, such as a doll dress 36, which is of a soft, pliable nature, may be packaged in package 10 by placing the dress 36 on blister card 12. Additionally, loose articles, such as doll shoes 38, 40 and a dolls purse 42, may be placed on blister card 12. Cover 16 may then be positioned on card 12 over articles 28, 36, 38, 40 and 42 and heat sealed to card 12 about peripheral flange 24 of blister cover 16. Additionally, the loose articles 38, 40 and 42' may be caged between protuberances 18 by heat-sealing tips 32 to card 12.
A sufficient number of dimples 18 will engage costume or dress 36 and press it firmly into engagement with card 12 when flange 24 is drawn into engagement with card 12 during the heat sealing operation to retain dress 36 firmly in position during shipment and display of package 10.
It should be noted that surface 14 will prevent dyes used on card 12 from bleeding onto dress 36.
While the particular package herein shown and described in detail is fully capable of attaining the objects and providing the advantages hereinbefore stated, it is to be understood that it is merely illustrative of the presently preferred embodiment of the invention and that no limitations are intended to the details of construction and design herein shown and described other than as defined by the appended claims, which form a part of this disclosure.
What is claimed is:
1. A package for shipping and displaying articles, comprising:
a blister card;
a pliable article loosely received on said card; and
a resilient blister-type cover spaced from and secured to said card and covering said article, said cover including a plurality of protuberances extending towards said card and with their innermost ends enadditional protuberances heat sealed to said card for gaging said article and pressing said article toward caging loose articles between said heat sealed prosaid card; tuberances. said article being a flexible article lying extended 4. Claims (5)

1. A package for shipping and displaying articles, comprising: a blister card; a pliable article loosely received on said card; and a resilient blister-type cover spaced from and secured to said card and covering said article, said cover including a plurality of protuberances extending towards said card and with their innermost ends engaging said article and pressing said article toward said card; said article being a flexible article lying extended against said card and said plurality of protuberances engaging different portions of said article to hold the same extended and spread out against said card.
2. A package as defined in claim 1 wherein said article is a fabric article.
3. A package as stated in claim 1 including additional protuberances heat sealed to said card for caging loose articles between said heat sealed protuberances.
4. A packAge as stated in claim 1 including a high-coefficient-of-friction material applied to said card and to said article-engaging ends of said protuberances.
5. A package as stated in claim 1 including a sealing material on said card to prevent colored ink and dye used thereon from bleeding into said article.
