Description

June 27, 1972 D. A. BARG PAINT CASES, PALE'ITE, AND CONVEYOR Filed 001;. 21, 1970 INVENTOR I DORA A BARG 4 ATTORNEYS BY 4222b,
United States Patent 3,672,742 PAINT CASES, PALETIE, AND CONVEYOR n Dora A. Barg, 4573 N. 30th St.,
Milwaukee, Wis. 53209 Filed Oct. 21, 1970, Ser. No. 82,592 Int. Cl. A47b 27/00, 63/04, 95/02 US. Cl. 312-432 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE My invention relates to a means for storing and conveying artistic paints, oils, thinner, and the like. More particularly, the invention relates to a container for storing and conveying thinner and other fluid cups on the bottom of a palette.
Artists supplies generally include a carrying case, a palette, paint tubes, and oil and turpentine cups. Usually, the cups snap on over the top of the palette. However, this is not too satisfactory, since it takes up room on the top of the palette which is better used for mixing paints. Also, the fluids in open cups are liable to spill if the palette is momentarily tipped too far.
Accordingly, a prime object of my invention is to provide a means of conveying palette cups, such as are described and claimed in my patent US. Pat. No. 2,718,722 which issued on Sept. 27, 1955 and entitled, Palette Accessory.
A related object of this invention is to provide a novel means for attaching the palette cups to the palette without using valuable palette surface for such attachments and yet leaving the interior of the palette cups accessible to the painter.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a means for retaining a plurality of containers in a fixed position at all times.
In keeping with an aspect of the invention, a carrying case includes means for providing sectional containers for storing palette cups. These cups may be applied to or removed from the bottom of a palette by means of Velcro brand hook and loop fastener material. The carrying case forms a container or enclosure for supporting the palette with the cups attached thereto.
It should be apparent to those who are familiar with art work that it is frequently necessary and convenient for the artist to carry his equipment, including such things as tubes of colored paint, thinner, a palette, and brushes. Accordingly, a prime purpose of my invention is to provide such means for the transporting of the equipment. The device is economical to produce and is designed to perform the purpose for which it is intended.
Other and further objects of my invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, when taken in conjunction with the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the carrying case in an open position with the paint tubes and the palette;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a paint tube or thinner cup container;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the palette cup in which the thinner may be disposed;
FIG. 4 is an end view of the container with the palette cup enclosed therein;
ice
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a conventional palette with the palette cups attached thereto; and
FIG. 6 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view of a portion of the carrying case with a container supporting the palette cup.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts and features throughout the several views. More particularly, the character 10 generally identifies the bottom portion of a carrying case, which may be constructed of wood, plastic, or any other type of rigid material. Attached thereto is a lid portion '11, hingedly supported on the body *10 at 12. The lid portion 11 is equipped with a grip, or handle 13, and conventional latches 14 for making an engagement with the contacts, shown as 15, on the body 10.
A plurality of containers 16 are in the form of longitudinal rectangular boxes or tubes (see FIG. 2) disposed in lateral relation with respect to one another within the enclosure 10. Each container 16 has a downwardly disposed lip 20 at one end (see FIGS. 2, 4 and 6), which lip engages the paint, tube or palette cup 21 and prevents it from becoming disengaged from the container 16. These boxes are held in position by means of elastic bands :17, which are attached at 18 to the vertical walls of the carrying case 10. The inside ends of the container boxes 16 make contact with members 19, which keeps them in alignment.
The elastic bands 17 hold the containers or boxes 16 against the lower surface of the case 10. Yet, the ends of the boxes may be raised contacting the members 19 to insert or remove the paint tubes or palette cups 21, if desired.
The cover portion 11 of the carrying case 10 is shown as supporting a conventional palette 22. The palette is held against the inner surface of the cover 111 by elastic bands 24 or in any other convenient manner. The bottom palette is shown as provided with a strip 23 of hook and loop tape fastening material, such as that made by the Velcro Company.
The palette cups 21 are a slide and housing combination. The housing top also shown equipped with a strip 25 (see FIG. 3) of hook and loop fastening material for making an engagement with the strip 23. This holds the palette cups 21 in engagement with the bottom of the palette 22. When a tray 26 is slid out of the housing 21, the thinner or linseed oil is available to the artist.
Other and further modifications may readily occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, the appended claims are to be construed to cover all equivalent structures which may fall within the spirit and the scope of the invention.
I claim:
