ABSTRACT: A game apparatus or toy comprising a target supporting member secured to a portion of the body of the user and a target connected to and suspended from said target supporting member so that said target is disposed in front of the user and in a position such that the target may be struck by the hands of the user in substantially the same manner that a tethered punching bag is struck by a boxer.

' A TTORNEYS 1 HEAD MOUNTED TETHERED TARGET This invention relates to a game apparatus or toy including a captive or tethered target secured to a portion of the body of the user so that the target is disposed in front of the user anti in a position such that the target may be struck by the hands of the user in substantially the same mannerin which a tethered punching bag is struck by a boxer, the target being suspended in front of the user by aflexible and preferably elastic suspension element so that the target quickly swings back towards the user after each blow that knocks the target away from the user.

In FIGS. 1 to 3 inclusive the target is shown as comprising a ball 5 attached, in any suitable manner, to the lower end of a flexible and elastic target suspending element 6. The upper end of element 6 is secured to the forward end of an elongated target supporting rod 7 projecting forwardly and horizontally from the head 8 of the user 9 at a level above the eyes ofthe user. The rear end of rod 7 is attached to the head of the user by the head engaging straps indicated at 10 and 11.

Strap 10 extends horizontally around and completely encircles the head of the user. The strap 11 extends across the top of the head of the userfrom front to rear and is provided with front and rear end loops 12 and 13 through which the strap 10 is threaded.

Strap I0 is preferably made adjustable to fit heads of different sizes. This may be accomplished-in various ways but, in the present instance, strap 10 is shown provided with overlapping end portions !0a and 10b having their opposing surfaces covered by interlocking strips of material 100 and 10d, such as that sold under the trade mark VELCO. These strips 10c and 10d may beinterlocked with each other to provide any desired degree of overlap of the end portions 10a and 10b of strap I0 in'adjusting this strap to fit the head of the user. j

The length of the target supporting rod 7 shown in FIG. I is predetermined so that the target 5 is suspended from the outer end of this rod in a convenient position to be struck by the hands of the user. Alternatcly the rod 7 may be made adjustable to vary the effective length thereof. This may he accomplished, for example, in the manner shown in FIG. 4 in which the rod 7 comprises telescoping sections 70 and 7b which are adjustable in the lengthwise direction thereof to vary the effective length of the rod and are releasably secured in adjusted position by a setscrew 70. Obviously, various other methods of making the rod 7 adjustable may be resorted to in addition to that shown in FIG. 4.

As shown to advantage in FIG. 3 the rear end of the target supporting rod 7 passes rearwardly through an opening 12a in the front in the front portion of the front'loop 12 of strap 11 and is removably fitted in a socket forming opening 14 providcd in a disclike anchoring member 15 which is confined between the front portion ofthe loop 12 and the opposing portion of the strap 10 passing through said loop.

' If desired, and as indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 1, a transparent face guard 17 may be suitably attached to the strap 10 in a protective position extending downwardly over the eyes of the user.

The invention also contemplates, as another optional fea ture, the provision of-impact members adapted to be suitably attached to the hands of the user to protect them from direct contact with the target 5. One of these impact members is indicated at 18 in FIG. 5 and is shown provided with attaching straps 19 for attaching it to one ofthe hands ofthe user.

I. A game apparatus or toy comprising an elongated target supporting member adjustable to vary the effective length thereof, strap means to which the rear end of the target supporting member is removably secured, the said strap means including a first strap horizontally disposed to form a complete circle and a second strap extending from front to rear of said first strap, the said second strap being provided with front and rear end loops through which the first strap is threaded, the said front loop having an aperture therethrough, a disclike anchoring member confined between the front portion of said front end loop andthe opposing portion of the second strap passing through the said front end loop, the said anchoring member having a socket forming opening therein alined with the aperture in the front portion of the front end loop, the rear end of the said target supporting member extending through the opening in the front portion of the front end loop and secured in the socket forming opening in the said anchoring member, and a target suspended from the front end of said target supporting memberby a flexible and elastic suspending element.
