Description

United States Patent 3,524,689 MULTIPLE SEWING MACHINE TABLE Harry Wener, Phoenix, Ariz., assignor to International Educational Sewing Manual, Inc., Phoenix, Ariz. Filed Aug. 22, 1968, Ser. No. 754,666 Int. Cl. A27b 21/00 US. Cl. 312-208 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE.
A sewing machine table arranged to support a series of sewing machines in easily accessible position while leaving the table top completely unobstructed for laying out work and providing drophead supports for the individual machines so that they may be lowered to concealed position under the table top when not in use.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (1) The field of this invention lies in a furniture structure for mounting machines in a series, and is constructed particularly for schools and manufacturing plants in which machines, such as sewing machines, are operated by power and large quantities of material are run continuously through the machines.
(2) Heretofore, multiple support structures for sewing machines and the like lacked the capability of using the \structure as a layout table or desk at all times, whether or not the machines were out in working position.
Further, the support structures formerly used were insightly at all times and could not be used as a regular piece of furniture when the machines were not in use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION One of the objects of this invention is to provide a structure for mounting sewing machines and the like in a series in which the machines are so positioned that they are easily accessible on all sides and the work surface of the supporting structure is free of all obstruction at all times.
Another object is to provide a multiple sewing machine table in which the machines are movable to and from a storage space under the table top without in any way interferring with the normal unobstructed use of the table top at all times.
It is also an object to provide a combined storage space and drophead sewing machine support under the table top which does not in any way interfere with the unobstructed use of the table top.
And a further object is to provide multiple sewing machine support structures having clean and pleasing appearance both with the machines in operation and when stored away under the table top.
3,524,689 Patented Aug. 18, 1970 ice BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a general perspective view showing the multiple sewing machine table incorporating the features of this invention.
5 FIG. 2 is a plan view of the structure shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view indicated by the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown a multiple sewing machine table comprising a base having upstanding ends 11 and 12, and the upstanding intermediate partitions 13 on the top edges of which is supported the large overhanging table top 14.
Suitable drophead machine support members 15 carrying the sewing machines 16 are located offset to one side of the compartments 17 and 18 formed between the intermediate partition and the ends 11 and 12 so as to provide an operators position at 19 provided by a suitable swivel chair so that operator has convenient access to the machines 16 and the table top 14 at all times. Suitable sliding doors 20 may be provided to enclose the open sides of the compartments 17 and 18.
What is claimed is:
1. A multiple sewing machine table comprising in combination (A) a base,
(B) a pair of spaced upstanding ends on said base,
(C) an upstanding intermediate partition on said base located between the upstanding ends forming cornpartments between the intermediate partition and the upstanding ends so as to provide operation positions at the table,
(D) an overhanging table top supported on the top edges of the ends and intermediate partition,
(E) and a plurality of drophead machine support members supported on the table structure located oflset to one side of the compartments between the ends and intermediate partition.
2. A multiple sewing machine table as in claim 1 wherein sliding doors are provided to enclose the open sides of the recited compartments.
