' PLASTIC BAG FOR OSITIONING CONTAINED ARTICLES 'Filed slept. 5. 196s /A/ VEA/TOR: WHLTON C. MQSH QTTORNEY United States Patent O 3,503,492 PLASTIC BAG FOR POSITIONING CONTAINED ARTICLES Walton C. Marsh, Belleville, Ill., assignor to Marsh Stencil Machine Company, Belleville, Ill., a corporation of Illinois Filed Sept. 5, 1968, Ser. No. 757,604 Int. CL B65d 65/16, 31/12 U.S. Cl. 206-45.33 2 Claims ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION vField of the invention The present invention relates generally to the packaging art, and more particularly to a novel plastic bag for holding writing pens, and the like, in orderly position, yet affording adequate lateral advertising and descriptive space.
Description of the prior art Heretofore, writing pens with refills when packaged have been mounted on a card, or the like, and placed in a plastic bag, advertising and descriptive material being on the card and observable through the plastic bag. Other packages have been and are being employed. In vie'w of the inexpensive pens and pencils sold today, it is highly desirable to provide a suitable package which will hold multiple units, yet cost even less than present packages.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In brief, the present novel plastic bag comprises contiguous front and rear sides which may be folded together about the bottom edge from a single sheet and which are heat sealed along the sides, a top closure means, and spaced groupings of spot welds defining positions or a position for writing pens, refills, and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to fulll the need lwhich has long existed in the packaging art for adequate presentation and sale of packaged writing pens, and the like. More specically, further objects are to provide a novel plastic bag for packaging writing pens, and the like, for sale, which is constructed to accommodate the desired number of writing pens, and the like, in relatively txed position in the bag, yet have adequate space on the front and rear of the bag for advertising and descriptive matter, which is economical, which is adapted for the reception and desired positioning of numerous items, and `which otherwise fullills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS -FIGURE 1 is a front view of a plastic bag constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention; and
`FIGURE 2 is an enlarged transverse cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 2-2 of FIGURE l, the front and rear sides being shown in expanded form.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawings more particularly by reference numerals, 10 indicates generally a plastic bag incorporating the principles of the present invention. The bag 10 includes a front side 12 and a rear side 14 which are integral along a bottom edge 16 and are heat sealed along side edges 18 and 20. A conventional plastic zipper 22 including a pull lip 24, or other closure means, is provided for loading and unloading the bag 10. Spaced pairs of spot welds 26 define a central compartment or area 28 adapted to receive a writing pen 30 and refills 32, and the like, in an orderly arrangement, as illustrated. The welds 26 prevent the elements in the defined area 28 from flopping around in disorderly fashion, which would occur with a bag the size of bag 10 without 'welds 26. Additional limiting -welds 26 can be employe-d, as more pairs or additional welds 26 per grouping to define several compartments.
Advertising is indicated by the block 34 which may extend over as much as desired of the front and rear sides 12 and 14. The advertising extends beyond the positions of the writing pen 30 and the refills 32. Thus, by the use of the 'welds 26, the writing pens 30, and the like, can be maintained in a desired upright position in being offered for sale in a wide package providing adequate room for advertising and descriptive matter.
It is manifest that there has been provided a plastic bag which fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understod that the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings have been given by way of illustration and example.y
