IMPROVEMENT IN COOKlNG-STOVES.

' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,658, dated March 11, 1862.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES J. WooLsoN, of Cleveland, Ohio, haveinvented a new and useful Improved Inside Front Door for Cooking-Stoves; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in attaching a fire-door or movable fire-plate to the inside of the opening for the front door or doors of cooking-stoves, for greater convenience and efficiency in roasting and broiling.

To enable others to make and use my invention,I proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I construct this fire-door of cast-iron or other suitable metal, and usually of an open sash- Work, as seen at A in Fig. 1 in the drawings. I attach this fire-door by hinges to the upper inside corners of the front-door frame, as seen at B in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, and fasten the same at the bottom to the front edge of the firegrate by catches cast upon the same, as seen at O in Figs. 1 and 3. This inside fire-door is intended to confine the fuel in its place when the front door or doors are open for the purpose of roasting, as seen at Fig. 1, and also to open and swing outward and upward, as seen at E E in Fig. 4:, when coals are being drawn from the fire for the purpose of broilmg.

That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The use of an inside fire-door or movable plate attached by hinges to the inside upper corners of the front-door frame of cookingstoves and by catches to the front edge of the horizontal lower fire-grate, so as to retain the fuel in its place for the purpose of roasting, and to allow the inside door to be swung out- Ward and upward that coals may be drawn from the fire for the purpose of broiling.
