UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE VELTY, OF GRATIOT, VISOONSIN.
PLOW-DRAG ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,296, dated June 22, 1886.
Application filed February 12. [886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WELTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gratiot, in the county of La Fayette and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn -Plow Drag Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to drag attachments for corn-plows; and it consists in the construction, novel arrangement, and adaptation of devices, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is illustrated by a perspective View, with the parts in their proper relative position with a plOWstandard.
Referring by letter to the said drawing, A indicates a standard, which may be that of any ordinary plow or cultivator, having its upper straight portion adapted to be secured to a frame or other suitable means of attachment, and its lower portion inclined forwardly to receive the adjustable shovel or point D, which has a lug-socket on its rear side to receive the said curved portion of the standard; and this lugis further provided with a threaded aperture to receive the locking screw or bolt, as shown.
B B indicate the drag attachment, consisting of two similar bars, having a horizontal portion, Z Z, which are arranged parallel in Serial No. 191.898. (N0 model.)
their normal positions and diverge laterally from the points 2 2 to the points 3 3, where they descend in a suitably-curved manner to receive the shovel-points4 4. The forward ends of the horizontal portions B B are perforated transversely to receive a securing-bolt in advance of the standard, whereby the said attachment may be held firmly to the standard.
E indicates an elongated endless band or ring, having a threaded eye to receive a se curingbolt, a. This ring or band is designed to be placed over the parallel portions of the attachment in rear of the standard and hold the same firmly against the sides of the standard.
By means of the band and securing-bolt. I am enabled to use the attachment on standards of various sizes.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with a plow standard and a shovel or plow, of the attachment consisting of the two similar bars having their forward horizontal parallel portions perforated and their'rear horizontal portions diverging laterally and bent to carry pulverizing-teeth, the transverse bolt securing the forward portions to the standard, and the band carrying a securing-bolt and arranged in rear of the standard, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WELTY.
