SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 339,250, dated April 6, 1886.
Application filed March 24, 1885. Serial No. 159,921. (No model.) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH ADOLPH ZSOHIESCHE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing in Cottbus, in the Empire of Germany, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-llIachines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an ironing-machine which is especially designed for tailors use, and is applicable for pressingand calendering garments and textile fabrics.
In the accon'ipanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View, and Fig. 2 a front view,of the ma chine. Fig. 8 represents a detail view on a larger scale.
Between the four parallel traversing-rails B of the wronghtiron frame A slide the rollers c of the great carriage,C, and upon and under the two longitudinal rails c of the latter move the rollers d of the smaller carriage, D, which guides the sad-iron n. The carriage O is provided at each side with two vertical rollers, c, and two horizontal rollers, c, which latter are guided laterally upon the upper rails, B. Four rollers d of the carriage D slide upon the upper, and four other rollersd upon the under, side of the rails 0 In a vertical hole of the carriage D, lined with the box 6, is raised or lowered the screw h, which carries the sad-iron n. Astrong spiral spring f, encircles the upper part of the box 6 and bears upon a shoulder, z, of the same, resting upon the surface of the carriage D. The tension of the springf acts upon the adjusting-wheels g, provided with a washer,
k, and containing the nut for screw h. A sec ond adjusting-wheel, g, of this kind is placed on the screw it under the box 6, and these two adjusting-wheels enable the tailor to raise and to lower the sad-iron n. It only the wheel g is turned backward, the spring f will expand and the sad-iron may be pressed downward in working, and is then raised again automatically by the action of the springf as soon as the hand is removed from the handle on of the sad-iron. The sad-iron n, being preferably a gas-heated sad-iron, has a handle, m, attached to the link Z. The lower part of this link Z is attached by a suitable joint to this handle in, while the upper part of said link I is attached to the lower end of the screw it by ajoint working at right angles to thejoint in its lower part. By this arrangement the sadiron may be tilted in longitudinal and transversal direction as needed in work. As the directions inwhich the carriages O and D slide form a right angle, the sad-iron is adapted to be moved to any point upon the ironing-table 0. The ironing-table 0 is carried by four vertical rods, q, guided in holes of the plate 1), which is carried by the rails P ofthe wroughtiron frame A. Two rods, q, are connected at each side of theironing-table 0 by the arms 1', with the end of a lever, s, pivotingin a bracket, a. By both levers s is supported the treadle t. It the treadle t is pressed down by the operators foot, the table 0, with the garment, will be raised and the latter pressed with more or less force against the sad-iron n, which may be moved and tilted at pleasure. As soon as the foot is removed from the treadle t, or somewhat raised, the table 0 will sink down and the sad iron n will not then touch the garment.
Instead of the sad-iron, apressing-plate or a calenderingroller may be attached to the screw it.
I claim as my invention- The device for suspending and adjusting the sad-iron n, which consists of the screw It, adjustingwvheelsgg', the box 6, with shoulders i, the springf, and the washer L, as and for the purpose set forth.
