SEAL-A-BAG Filed June 16, 1966 INVENTOR. ANN. I- QUSSO 3,381,874 SEAL-A-BAG Ann l. Russo, 50 Laurel St., Carbondale, Pa. 18407 Filed .tune 16, 1966, Ser. No. 558,133 1 Claim. (Cl. 229--7) This invention relates to containers and other folding devices, and more particularly a flexible container.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a flexible container which will keep the contents thereof free from contact with the outer air and yet conveniently permit desired quantities thereof to be discharged whenever desired.
Another object of this invention is to provide a flexible container Which is particularly adapted to store dry cereals and other products of similar nature.
Another object of this invention is to provide a flexible container which is provided with a flexible spout thereby allowing easy opening or closing of said container, less spilling, and is safe to use.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a flexible container which is inexpensive to manufacture, provides maximum utility for its user, and is sufiiciently flexible to withstand conventional wear and tear effects.
Other objects and advantages of this invention Will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory enbodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a spout forming insert in `accordance with this invention.
FIGURE 2 is a plane view of this invention showing the spout in a sealed or compressed condition, with the fragmentary portions of the container being broken away.
FIGURE 3 is a View similar to that in FIGURE 2 except that the spout is shown in an expanded condition.
FIGURE 4 is a vertical Sectional view `along the lines 4 4 of FIGURE 3.
According to this invention, a flexible container is provided with a substantially rectangular outer bag 11 which encloses an inner bag 12. As it can be seen from FlGURE 4 the inner bag 12 is provided with a funnel 16 for pouring out or otherwise removing the contents,
such as, cereal, etc., from the flexible containers 11 -and Looking now at the drawing one will seen that the outer bag or container 11 is provided with an opening Which is concentric with the upper portion of the funnel d States Patent O 3,381,874 Paerted May 7, 1968 lCe 16 of the inner bag or container 12. A circular spout member 13 having a pair of oppositely positioned fiaps 14 extending therefrom is adapted to snuggly fit within the funnel l. The spout member 13 may be made of a suitable material having sufiicient body to perform its function, that is, possessing the necessary flexible characteristics so that it may be compressed or sealed (see FIGURE 2) or widely opened as shown in FIGURE 3. f It will also be noted that flaps 14 serve as the handle means for said spout member 13 so that said member may be easily removed or inserted into the funnel 16. Furthermore, a flexible cover 17 is provided for the opening 15 of the outer container il.
What I now claim is: l. A bag for storing dry cereals and similar products, comprising, in combination, a flexible inner container, a flexible outer container, said outer container sealingly enclosing said inner container, said inner container being provided with an opening therein, said opening being adjacent one corner of said inner container, a flexible funnel formed around said opening of said inner container, said funnel extending outwardly of said inner conlainer, said funnel being contained within said outer container, said outer container including an opening which is in concentric relationship to said funnel formed around said opening of said inner container, and a removable spout member adapted to be supported Within said funnel for providing support to said funnel during the pouring out of a content of dry cereal or the like from said container, a cover member being secured at its one edge to said outer container and being provided to close said opening of said outer container, said funnel comprising a circular configurated collar that is of substantially identical length with said spout member, said spout member comprising a circular configurated member adapted to be snuggly fitted within the inner walls of said funnel, said spout member being provided with a pair of 0ppositely positioned fiaps along one edge, said flaps serving as handles for removal thereof from said funnel, each of said fiaps being relatively smaller in length around said edge of said spout member than the length of said edge therebetween, and said spout member being made of a sufiiciently flexible body for sealingly closing said opening of said inner container.
