Description

(No Model.)
J. WYTTENBAGH. BIFURGATED PEN HOLDER. 11
Patente'df'eb. 16, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN \VYTTENBAOH, OF ROCKPORT, INDIANA.
BIFURCATED PEN-HOLDER.
BPBCIPICA'LION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,540, dated February 16, 1 82367 Application ti ed September 28, 1885. Serial No. 178,460. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J oHN VVYTTENBACH, of Rockport, in the county of Spencer and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Pen-Holder, entitled the Bifurcated Pen- Holder, for use in acquiring a rapid, easy, and legible style of penmanship; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the sanie.
The nature of my invention consists in the bifurcation of the pen-holder, or its division into two branches at short distance from the end at which the pen is fastened to or into the pen-holder, as represented in the annexed drawings, in which Figure l is a front view of the bifurcated pen-holder.
Like letters refer to like parts throughout the specification, in which- A represents the point of bifurcation or di vision of the pen-holder into two branches. B B represent the two branches of the penholder; 0, the part between the point of bifurcation and the end of the pen-holder; D, the end of the pen-holder to or into which the pen is fastened; E, the pen.
Fig. 2 shows the pen-holder as held by the hand of the user.
The bifurcated pen-holder, made out of any kind of suitable material, is light and holds the pen firmly. Its two branches admit the first finger of the hand between them, and serve the purpose of bringing the hand over to the left, so that the-wrist is nearly flat with the table or desk upon which the paper is placed on which the writing is done; also, of
always keeping the pen-holder just forward of the knuckle-joint of the first finger, and of preventing beginners or persons learning to write from doubling up the fingers used in writing in an awkward and improper manner. They further aid in keeping all of the limbs used in writing in a natural and proper position, and in acquiring a free and easy move ment of the same.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bifurcated pen holderthat is, a penholder divided into two branches a short distance from the end at which the pen is fastened to or into the pen-holder-as herein describeLand reprcsentedin the annexed drawlugs.
JOHN WY'ITENBACH.
