(Cl. 132--82) This invention concerns a cosmetic compact having a multiplicity of compartments adapted to contain a variety of powders, rouges, creams, lipsticks, eyebrow pencils, and the like.

The compact has a flat cylindrical base provided with a hinged cover. The inside of the cover has a highly polished reflecting surface to serve as a mirror when the cover is opened. A flexible pad removably disposed in the cover has a central spongy portion which fits into a centrally located powder compartment in the base. The base has a plurality of radially disposed partitions which divide the base into a plurality of compartments which may contain powders, cakes or creams. A plurality of tubular compartments are formed on the base. These compartments removablyhold tubular containers of cylindrical lipsticks, eyebrow pencils and the like.

It is therefore a principal object of the invention to provide a cosmetic compact having a plurality of compartments for a variety of powders, creams, and cakes and lipsticks.

A further object is to provide a cosmetic compact having a plurality of radially arranged cosmetic containers on a flat circular base, with partitions dividing the base into compartments for containing cosmetic powders, creams and cakes.

Another object is to provide a cosmetic compact as described with a hinged cover having a mirror on the inner side thereof, and a pad serving as a closure for the several compartments and as a shield for the mirror to keep the mirror clean when the cover is closed, the pad having a spongy portion which serves as a powder puff.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring to FIGS. l-6, there is shown a cosmetic compact 10 including a flat circular dished base 12 with a flat circular bottom 11 and upstanding cylindrical peripheral Wall 14. Secured to the bottom 11 and concentric with wall 14 is a cylindrical partition 16. This partition may be secured by a Welded or soldered fillet 18. The partition 16 has outwardly extending flange 2t circumferentially extended around the partition. Vertical partitions 22 extend radially outward to the outer wall 14 from the outer end of the flange. These partitions define tapered compartments C with the inner partition 16 and outer wall 14. Outwardly flaring flat covers 24 are secured to the flange by piano hinges 26. At the top of each partition 22 is secured by soldering or welding a tubular casing or container 30. Each of these containers has a closed end 33 and open end 31.

A tubular lipstick holder 36 closed at one end by an annular handle 38 is removably mounted in each casing or container 30. A lipstick 40 is supported in the holder with its pointed end protruding outwardly thereof. The open end of the lipstick holder is initially inserted through the open end 31 of the casing or container so that the handle 38 remains outside the casing as seen in FIG. 2 where it can be readily grasped by the fingers of the user for removal when needed.

16, 22, wall :14 and hinged covers 24. One of the covers 24' is shown partially open in FIGS. 5 and 6. Another cover 24 is partially broken away in FIG. 5 to show cosmetic 45. Notches 23 in outer end of covers 24 facilitate opening by fingernail engagement.

The central partition .16 with bottom 11 defines acylindrical compartment in which face powder 50 may be disposed. This compartment mayzbe closed by a flat disk-like sponge 52 attached to a circular flexible rubber or plastic pad 54; see FIG. 7. Pad 54 fits loosely inside cover 15 of the compact and is easily removed.

Cover 15 has a circular flat top 55 and a peripheral cylindrical skirt 56. The skirt 56 is pivotally attached to the wall 14 by a hinge 57.

A plurality of circumferentially spaced radially extending grooves 60 are formed by pressing the material at the cover outwardly and upwardly of the plane of the fiat top 55 of the cover. These grooves receive the semicylindrical upper sides of containers 36 as shown in FIGS. 2 and 4, when the cover 15 is closed. The pressed portions of the cover define radial ridges 60' on top of the cover. The flexible pad 54 is conformable to the curvature of the grooves and containers 30. Between the containers 30, the pad 54 lies flat on the compartment covers 24 holding them closed. The sponge 52 fits inside partition 16 to keep the powder therein. When the cover is opened the pad 54 can be removed from the cover and the powder adhering to the sponge 52 can be applied to the users body. The flexible pad 54 serves as a convenient handle for the sponge 52 which then serves as a powder puff.

The inner side of the cover 15 can befinished with a highly reflecting metallic coating 65. This coating will serve as a mirror. The pad 54 in the closed cover acts as a shield to keep the mirror 65 clean and clear of cosmetics in the several containers 30 and compartments C. Indicia 66 on the covers 24 identify the color or character of the contents of the several compartments.

When the cover 15 is open and disposed vertically while the base 12 is horizontaL'the mirror 65 guides the user in applying the cosmetics which may be selected from the containers 30 or compartments C. The cos metics in compartment C may be applied by a users finger, a brush or other applicator. If desired, a tapered flat applicator pad 70, as best shown in FIG. 9, may be re movably inserted in each of the compartments for applying the cosmetic therefrom.

The compact is very attractive in appearance, resembling ahead of a flower having petals in closed and open top plan view. It provides in a single casing a whole kit of cosmetics which will meet numerous needs of a cosmetic user.

The base 12 and cover 15 may be externally finished in gold, silver or other precious metal and may be at tractively decorated, engraved, colored, and the like.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure United States Letters Patent is:

1. A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base,

said base having a fiat circular bottom and upstanding,

cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining aplurality of fiat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, and cylindrical containers secured to tops of the fiat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends for slidably receiving cylindrical cosmetic members therein.

2. A cosmetic compact comprising a fiat dished base, said base having a fiat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially out wardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, and cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said Wall of the base, said containers having open outer'ends for slidably receiving cylindrical cosmetic members therein, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed.

A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base, said base having a flat. circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends for slidably receiving cylindrical cosmetic members therein, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, and a flexible, circular pad removably disposed in the dished cover and conforming to the opposing curvatures of said grooves and containers, said pad holding the fiat covers closed when the dished cover is closed over the base.

A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base, said base having a flat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of fiat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, and cylindrical containers secured to tops of the fiat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends for slidably receiving cylindrical cosmetic members therein, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside or" the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, said circular top of the dished cover having a highly reflecting surface on its inner side to serve as a mirror.

A cosmetic compact comprising a fiat dished base, said base having a fiat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends for slidably receiving cylindrical cosmetic members therein, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, said circular top of the dished cover having a highly reflecting surface on its inner side to serve as a mirror, and a flexible, circular pad removably disposed in the dished cover and conforming to the opposing curvatures of said grooves and containers, said pad holdingthe flat covers closed when the dished cover is closed over the base and protecting said mirror from soiling by cosmetics in said compartments.

A cosmetic compact comprising a fiat dished base, said base having a fiat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, fiat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said bottom defining a plural ity of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends and closed inner ends, cylindrical cosmetic members slidably and removably disposed in said containers, and handles on said members for finger engagement to slide the cosmetic members into and out of said containers.

7. A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base, said base having a fiat circular bottom and upstanding,

cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of fiat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends and closed inner ends, cylindrical cosmetic members slidably and removably disposed in said containers, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed.

A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base, said base having a flat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having open outer ends and closed inner ends, cylindrical cosmetic members slidably and removably disposed in said containers, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions,

nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, said circular top of the dished cover having a highly reflecting surface on its inner side to serve as a mirror.

9. A cosmetic compact comprising a flat dished base, said base having a flat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentrio with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, flat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base, said containers having opening outer ends and closed inner ends, cylindrical cosmetic members slidably and removably disposed in said containers, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, said circular top of the dished cover having a highly reflecting surface on its inner side to serve as a mirror, a flexible, circular pad removably disposed in the dished cover and conforming to the opposing curvatures of said grooves and containers, said pad holding the flat covers closed when the dished cover is closed over the base and protecting said mirror from soiling by cosmetics in said compartments.

A cosmetic compact comprising a fiat dished base, said base having a flat circular bottom and upstanding, cylindrical peripheral wall, a cylindrical partition concentric with said wall secured to said bottom to provide a powder holding chamber, fiat container-supporting partitions extending radially from the cylindrical partition to said wall, said partitions with said base bottom defining a plurality of flat shallow cosmetic containing compartments, said cylindrical partition having a radially outwardly extending flange, tapered covers having ends hinged to said flange and providing closures for said compartments, cylindrical containers secured to tops of the flat partitions and extending radially outward from the cylindrical partition to points beyond said wall of the base,

said containers having open outer ends and closed inner ends, cylindrical cosmetic members slidably and removably disposed in said containers, a dished cover having a circular top and peripheral skirt, hinge means pivotally attaching said skirt to said base, said circular top having circumferentially spaced radial portions extending outwardly to define grooves at the underside of the dished cover, said cylindrical containers having upper portions nesting in the grooves respectively when the dished cover is closed, said circular top of the dished cover having a highly reflecting surface on its inner side to serve as a mirror, a flexible, circular pad removably disposed in the dished cover and conforming to the opposing curvatures of said grooves and containers, said pad holding the flat covers closed when the dished cover is closed over the base and protecting said mirror from soiling by cosmetics in said compartments, and a spongy member secured to said pad and extending into said chamber for holding the powder therein when the dished cover is closed, said spongy member and pad serving as a powder pufl when the dished cover is open and pad is removed therefrom.

Claims

1. A COSMETIC COMPACT COMPRISING A FLAT DISHED BASE, SAID BASE HAVING A FLAT CIRCULAR BOTTOM AND UPSTANDING, CYLINDRICAL PERIPHERAL WALL, A CYLINDRICAL PARTITION CONCERNTRIC WITH SAID WALL SECURED TO SAID BOTTOM TO PROVIDE A POWDER HOLDING CHAMBER, FLAT CONTAINER-SUPPORTING PARTITIONS EXTENDING RADIALLY FROM THE CYLINDRICAL PARTITION TO SAID WALL, SAID PARTITIONS WITH SAID BASE BOTTOM DEFINING A PLURALITY OF FLAT SHALLOW COSMETIC CONTAINING COMPARTMENTS, SAID CYLINDRICAL PARTITION HAVING A RADIALLY OUTWARDLY EXTENDING FLANGE, TAPERED COVERS HAVING ENDS HINGED TO SAID FLANGE AND PROVIDING CLOSURES FOR SAID COMPARTMENTS, AND CYLINDRICAL CONTAINERS SECURED TO TOPS OF THE FLAT PARTITIONS AND EXTENDING RADIALLY OUTWARD FROM THE CYLINDRICAL PARTITION TO POINTS BEYOND SAID WALL OF THE BASE, SAID CONTAINERS HAVING OPEN OUTER ENDS FOR SLIDABLY RECEIVING CYLINDRICAL COSMTIC MEMBERS THEREIN.
