ROBERT HART, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
ADJUSTABLE SWINGING BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,3I9, dated December 16, 1884.
Application filed March 10, 1884.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Swinging Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use'the same, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its object to provide an adjustable swinging bracket of a novel and simplified construction, whereby the same may be readily adapted to receive and hold a lamp, flower-pot, book-rest, or other article at any desired height or position; and it consists, essentially, in the details of construction and general arrangement of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically designated in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my complete invention, and Fig. 2 a detail view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures.
In carrying out my invention the main frame of the bracket is formed of an upwardly-projecting rod, A, having a tubular bearing, 13, at its upper end for the reception of the horizontally-arranged bar 0, which supports the lamp, book-rest, or other artiole, as fully shown in Fig. 1. The lower vertical end of the rod A is adapted to be secured to a window-frame or other place of support by means of the eyebolt a and ratchetplate E, said rod passing down through the eye of the bolt and through an opening, I), in the center of the ratchet-plate E, as shown.
Above the ratchet-plate E, and secured to the rod A by means of the set-screw d, is pro .vided an arm or projection, D, having a downwardly-projecting lug, 0, upon its outer end, which is adapted to fit between the teeth or cogs of the ratchet-plate to hold the frame at any desired position. The horizontally-ar- (No model.)
ranged bar 0 is adapted to slide freely back and forth in the tubular bearing B, and is adjusted at any desired point by means of the set-screw c, as shown in Fig. 1.
The receptacle for holding the lamp or other similar article is composed of a base, 9, having spring-arms h projecting upwardly and outwardly therefrom in such manner as to form a cup-shaped receptacle, as shown, the base 9 being provided with a central opening for the rod C to slip through, and upon which it is held by the set-screw The book-rest is composed of a table, F, having an elon-- gated hollow tubular base, f, adapted to slip over and move freely upon the rod 0, to which it may be secured at any angle or position by the set-screws j, small spring-clamps is projecting a short distance upward from the said base f, to hold the book in an open position, as fully shown in Fig. 1.
' At the extreme outer end of the rod or bar 0 is secured, in a similar manner, a base, I, provided with curved spring-arms m, which are adapted to receive a pot of flowers, glass of water, or other desired articles.
The construction of my invention being as described, it will be observed that in the operation of the same the entire frame may be raised or lowered by means of the clamp ingscrew (1 upon the arm or projection D, and the frame may also be swung around at any desired position, and held in place by the engagement of the lug e of the arm D with the teeth or cogs of the ratchet-plate E. The rod or bar 0 may also be adjusted to any desired length beyond the tubular bearing B, and the book-rest may be inclined at any desired angle by means of the set-screws. The receptacle containing the lamp may also be moved toward or from the book -rcst to secure the proper amount of light.
My invention is particularly adapted for a readers stand, but is alike applicable for other purposes, such as a music-rack, or for holding flower-p0ts, &c.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and useful- The herein-described adjustable bracket, consisting of the rod A, bearing B, rod or bar 0, and eyebolt a, the rod A being ad- Intestimony whereof I affix my signature justably secured in the said eyebolt a and in presence of two witnesses. ratchet-plate E, and provided with the arm D and set-screw d, and the rod or bar 0 being ROBERT HART.
5 adjustably secured within the tubular bear- 7 ing B by set-screw c, and provided with the WVitnesses: lamp-receptacle and book rest, substantially .ED. H. WVEBsTER, as and for the purpose specified. GEO. XV. BOIES.
