4 Claims. (Cl. 4149) This invention relates to shower curtains for bath tub and bath stall showers, andmore particularly to a disappearing curtain for such bath showers.

The general object of my invention is to provide a disappearing curtain for a bath tub shower which can also be used as a door for a bath stall shower.

A more particular object of my invention is to provide an improved shower curtain of the character stated which is simple in construction and safe in operation.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear hereinafter as this specification progresses.

My invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective of a bath tub shower, in the front side of which is mounted my disappearingshower curtain showing my curtain drawn part way down from the curtain roller.

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my invention showing my curtain wound up on the curtain roller within the curtain roller casing.

Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the curtain roller, my curtain wound up on said roller, and said roller and curtain detachably and operatively mounted within the curtain roller casing.

Fig. 4 is a vertical cross section of my invention taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrow.

Fig. 5 is a vertical cross section of my invention taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3 in the direction of the arrow.

Fig. 6 is a vertical cross section of my invention taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 3.

Fig. 7 is a cross section of a modification of the curtain roller and casing of my invention.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, in which the same parts are designated by the same reference numerals in all of the views of the drawing, my invention comprises a horizontal tubular curtain-roller casing 1, a pair of U-shaped externally flanged supporting brackets 2 and 3, over which ends respectively of the tubular casing 1 are detachably fitted, and collars 4 and 5 detachably fitted over said ends, respectively, of said tubular curtain roller casing 1, against the Walls 6 and 7, respectively, to which said brackets 2 and 3 are secured, whereby said collars 4- and 5 cover the outer ends, respectively, of said brackets and provide a neat finish at said ends of said tubular curtain roller casing 1. Each of the supporting brackets 2 and 3 comprises a U-shaped bracket member 8 formed with an intermediate vertical connecting wall 9 and a pair of vertically spaced horizontal walls 10 and 11 outstanding from the lower and upper ends of said connecting wall 9 and a pair of securing flanges 12 and 13 extending vertically downwardly and upwardly from the outer ends, respectively of said outstanding horizontal walls 10 and 11 of said U-shaped bracket member 8 which flanges 12 and 13 are provided with screw holes 14 and 15, respectively, to receive screws 16 and 17, respectively, for detachably securing supporting brackets 2 and 3 to 2,840,827 Patented July 1, 19 58 the end walls 6 and 7, respectively, of a bath tub shower 18 as shown in Fig. l of the drawing, or a bath stall shower (not shown). The intermediate wall 9 of the 'U-shaped bracket 3 is provided at one end with a circular bearing opening 19 to receive the cylindrical end 20 of the curtain roller spindle, while the intermediate wall 9 of the U-shaped bracket 2 is provided with a parallel sided slot 21 to receive a fiat sided trunnion 22 to hold said curtain roller spindle against rotation while the curtain roller spring (not shown) is being wound in the conventional manner.

The tubular curtain roller casing 1 is provided with a longitudinal slot 23 through which my shower curtain 24 extends to or from the shower curtain roller 25 enclosed within said curtain roller casing 1, as shown in the form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 3 and 6 of the draw ing. In said form of my invention the curtain roller casing 1 is installed with the curtain slot 23 at the lower rear portion of said curtain roller casing 1, so that said slot will not show from the front of the bath tub shower shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

In the modification of my invention shown in Fig. 7 there is a longitudinal slot 26 in the lower side of the curtain roller casing 1 through which the roller curtain 24 extends from the curtain roller 25. On one edge of said slot 26 is mounted a plastic bead 27 over which extends the roller curtain 24, and a squeegee 28 is secured to the opposite edge of said slot 26 for wiping the water of the inner side of said curtain 24 as said curtain 24 is wound up on the curtain roller 25.

In operation the U-shaped bracket members 8 of the brackets 2 and 3 are introduced into the ends, respectively, of the tubular curtain roller casing 1 and the flanges 12 and 13 of said brackets are securedto the inner sides of the side walls 6 and 7 of a bath tub shower by screws 16 and 17, as shown, for example in Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings, and the collars 4 and 5 having been fitted on the curtain roller casing 1 are moved along said casing to the left and right ends of said casing against the inner sides of the walls 6 and 7 respectively of the bath tub shower shown in Fig. l of the drawing, covering the outwardly projecting flanges 12 and 13 of the U-shaped brackets 2 and 3, respectively, providing a neat and ornamental finish around the ends, respectively, of said curtain roller casing 1, as particularly shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive of the drawing.

I claim:

1. In combination with the side walls of a bath shower, 8. pair of brackets secured on said side walls, respectively, a curtain roller mounted at its end on said brackets, respectively, a shower curtain wound on said curtain roller, a curtain roller casing mounted at its ends with said brackets extending into engagement with the inner of said ends of said casing, said casing being provided with a longitudinal slot through which said curtain extends for winding said shower curtain on said curtain roller or for unwinding said curtain from said curtain roller.

2. In a shower curtain device as claimed in claim 1 including a pair of collars slidably fitted on said curtain roller casing to be moved to the ends, respectively, of said casing against the side walls of said bath shower.

3. A disappearing shower bath curtain device comprising a pair of U-shaped brackets secured to the side walls of a bath shower cabinet, a curtain roller mounted at its ends in said brackets, respectively, a shower curtain wound on said curtain roller, a curtain roller casing fitted at its ends over said U-shaped brackets, said casing being provided with longitudinal slot through which said shower curtain extends to be wound upon said curtain roller or unwound from said curtain roller through said casing slot.
