1 Claim. (Cl. 312-42) This invention generally relates to a wall dispenser for book matches and more specifically provides improved and novel construction for easily dispensing book matches.

Book matches generally have become widely used as a device of convenience and has been extensively utilized as an advertising medium. These match books normally are packed in paper cartons arranged flatly against one another in alternating relation in two or more rows. When these matches are retained in the cartons for individual dispensing, after a few book matches have been removed, the remainder then becomes jumbled and disordered wherein the problem of grasping a single book of matches becomes more difficult and time consuming. It is especially useful to have some means for retaining the book matches in readily accessible position in places where these book matches are generally dispensed such as cigarette counters or the like. Accordingly, it is a primary object of the present inventon to provide a dispenser for book matches which may be mounted on the wall at a convenient position for ready access for dis pensing a single book of matches in a quick and easy manner.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a dispensing device which is adapted to receive and retain an entire carton of match books so that the books may be withdrawn one at a time through delivery slots at the bottom of the dispenser.

Still another important feature of the present invention is to provide a wall dispenser for book matches that is simple in construction, easy and efficient in use, molded of a single one-piece construction, Well adapted for its intended purposes, long lasting, convenient and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the match book dispenser of the present inventon;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal, vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 22 of Figure 1 showing the details of construction of the partition and the means for inclining the dispenser;

Figure 3 is a top plan sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 3-3 of Figure 2 showing the structural details of the slots in the bottom of the casing for providing access to the lowermost of the book matches; and

Figure 4 is a fragmentary rear perspective view showing the upwardly extending notches in the rear walls of the casing for providing access to the rear of the lowermost of the book matches thereby permitting the matches to be seen that the numeral generally designates the wall type dispenser for paper book matches of the present invention including a casing generally designed by the numeral 12 and including a back wall 14, a front wall 16, and side walls 18 and 20 which form substantially a rectangular hollow casing having an open upper end 22. The back Wall '14 is provided with an upstanding extension .24 with a suitable aperture 26 therein for receiving a fastening member 28 therethrough for attaching the dispenser 10 to a supporting wall 30. The side walls 18 and 20 are provided with tapered extensions 32 on each edge thereof that are wider at their lower ends than at their upper ends thereby inclining the rear wall 14 and the entire dispenser 10 downwardly and outwardly.

The front wall 16 of the casing 12 is provided with a pair of vertical slots 34 and 36 for viewing the book matches 38 that are normally stacked in two rows. Dividing the two rows of book matches 38 is a partition member 40 which is attached to the rear surface of the front wall 16 and extends substantially one-half of the distance to the rear wall 14. This permits the insertion of a portion of the carton that normally contains the book matches 38 for facilitating the loading of the dispenser 10.

Adjacent the bottom of the front wall 16 is a horizontal discharge opening 42 extending completely across the front wall 16 and a pair of vertical notches 44 and 46 is provided in the upper edge of the discharge opening 42. In the bottom 48 of the casing 12 is a pair of horizontal slots 50 and 52 which extend completely across the bottom wall 48 and are slightly wider at their forward ends than at their rear ends. In communication with the rear end of the slots 50 and 52 is a pair of vertically extending notches 54 and 56 which are in communication with the notches 50 and 52, respectively, thereby permitting access to the rear of the lowermost book of matches 38. Also, it will benoted that suitable indicia 58 may be provided on the front wall 16 for indicating the articles positioned within the dispenser 10 and the entire device may be constructed of plastic or other suitable material which lends itself to well known manufacturing procedures for enhancing the manufacturing cost.

In operation, the matches 38 are inserted into the dispenser 10 by removing the cover of a carton and one end thereof and insertion of the carton along with the matches 38 into the dispenser 10. Then by placing the finger in a selected notch 54 and 56 and moving forwardly thereon, the lowermost match book 38 will be moved outwardly through the slot 42 since the persons finger may move along one of the notches 50.or 52.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

A wall dispenser for articles arranged in two vertical stacks comprising a vertically disposed casing having an open upper end, a vertical partition in said casing thereby dividing the easing into two areas, said casing having a discharge opening across the front thereof adjacent the bottom, said casing having a pair of generally horizontal spaced slots in the bottom thereof in communication with the discharge opening for providing access to the lowermost article in each stack for movement thereof outwardly through the discharge opening, each of said horizontal slots terminating at their inner ends in notches extending upwardly in the back wall of the casing for providing access to the rear of the lowermost article of each stack for movement thereof through the discharge opening, and means on said casing for engaging a supporting wall for Patented Sept. 3, 1957 retaining the casing inclined outwardly and downwardly, said casing having a pair of vertical slots in the front wall thereof for viewing each area to determine the.
