Description

Oct. 2, 1956 T. BARNETT COMBINATION PLUG-Box AND BELT Filed March 18, 1955 United States Patent O COMBINATIGN PLUG-39X AND BELT Ted Barnett, Iuka, Miss.
Application March 18, 1955, Serial No. 495,281
1 Claim. (Ci. 224--5) This invention relates to fishermens equipment and has special reference to plug-holders and a combination belt.
One object of the invention is to provide a combination of a belt with one or more plug-holders wherein the plugholder may be adjusted around the belt convenient for access to the lisherman.
A second important object of the invention is to provide simple means whereby such a plug-holder may automatically be held on a belt in the position to which it is adjusted.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a novel means for securing a plug-holder in position on a iishermans belt.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide a form of plug-holder which, while normally protecting a plug in the holder, may be opened at the top for convenience in withdrawing the plug.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the device showing a number of plug-holders mounted on a fishermans belt.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section showing plug-holders on a belt.
Fig. 3 is a view from the right side of Fig. 2 and showing a plug-holder with a portion of a belt.
Fig. 4 is a view from the left side of Fig. 2, the belt being omitted.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5, but showing the cover of the plug-holder open.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged detailed view of the central part of Fig. 3, the view being partly in section, showing the arrangement for holding a plug-holder adjusted on the belt.
Fig. 8 is a section on the line 8 8 of Fig. 5.
In the invention, as here described, there is indicated a Waist belt 10 adapted to extend around the waist of a isherman and this belt is provided with the usual buckle 6 fastening 11 for adjusting the belt to different sizes of Patented Oct. 2, 1956 ice waist. Adjacent to buckle and tongue ends of the belt the upper and lower edges of the belt are serrated or corrugated as at 12.
The plug holder consists of a rectangular box 13 having side walls 14 provided with forwardly and downwardly inclined upper edges 15. The front and back walls of each of these plug-holders terminate upwardly in the same plane so that a portion at the rear of each side wall extends upwardly of the rear wall and on a pivot pin or wire 16 extending between these side wall portions, is fastened a cover or lead having a main portion 17 from the rear and from which extends downwardly a flange 18. At the front of this cover 17 is provided a second flange 19 which, as shown in Fig. 5, forms a lip extending over the front wall of the box. Also at each side of the cover there is provided a ange 20, the lower edge of which, upon closure of the box, rests on a respective side wall.
Mounted on the rear wall of the box slightly above the middle of its height is a shallow strip 21 through which passes the belt 10. This strip 21 has at its top and bottom flanges 22. On each of these anges is secured one end of a spring member 23 which has a free end 24 constituting a pawl for engagement in the corrugated or serrated ratchet portions 12 of the belt.
In the application of the invention a number of these plug-holders are threaded onto the belt 10 and are slid around to positions found by the fisherman to be convenient to reach. Of course, the fisherman puts in these fishing plugs as he may desire. Now by reason of the pawl or ratchet formation of the belt and plug-holders, the plug-holders may be brought closely together or spread widely apart just as the fisherman desires. It is obvious that changes may be made from the exact form of the device herein shown and described without departing from the material principles involved. It is not accordingly desired to confine the invention to this exact form, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed;
What is claimed as new.
As a new article of manufacture, a iishermans belt, comprising an elongated strap having a buckle at one end for securing the same about the waist of a user, a plurality of plug-holders adjustable along the length of said strap and means for securing each plug-holder in a selected position along the length of said strap, said last mentioned means comprising a series of teeth providing a ratchet formed on the edges of said strap and a guide clip aixed to each of said plug holders and through which said strap passes, and spring biased pawls carried by each clip, said plug-holders comprising rectangular box-like members open at the top and having a swinging closure mounted on its upper end.
