The webs 3i and 32 have mounted thereon brackets 33 and 34, respectively, which are provided with screw threaded holes 35. Sign plates 36 and 8? are detachably mounted on'the brackets 33 and 3%, respectively, by screws 33 or the like which extend through suitable holes in the sign plates 35 and 3'! and the brackets 33 and 34, respectively. The sign plates 23, 35 and 3'? may be made of metal, plastic or rubber and may be of any desired configuration, but in the present illustration are substantially square and when mounted upon the post 22 or" the parking 'meter form a substantially equilateral triangle. The plates are adapted to have inscribed thereon advertising matter, information or other desirable matter. i i
In the use of the device, assuming that the sign plates have been removed from the brackets and that the nutz t andthe bolt 2! have been removed from the lugs ii and it, the arms Hi and I i may be moved apart on their pivot it until the space between the free ends of the arms is sufliciently large to permit the clamping member A to encircle the post 22 of the parking meter 23. The clamping member A may then be securely attached to the post 22 by means of the bolt 2! and the nut 2 5.
During the opening and closing movements of arms H 3 and Il the contacting surfaces of the ears I2 and i3 will act as bearing surfaces. This arrangement will properly guide the arms in their pivotal movements so as to maintain the arms and the openings l9 and 28 of the lugs ii and I8 in proper alignment to facilitate the insertion of the bolt 2i therein. The clamping member A may be positioned at any suitable height on the post 22 and the nut 24 may then be tightened to maintain the device in the select-' ed position. The sign plates may then be mounted upon their respective brackets.
It will be noted that when the sign plate 28 is secured to the bracket sections 25 and 2e, it will provide an additional securing means for holding the arms it and l i in clamping relation to the post 2'2. The bracket sections 25 and 2t and the sign plate 28 will also overlie and partially conceal the bolt 2! and the nut 2 3. This arrangement will, to some-extent, protect these parts against the elements and will also'serve to make it more dinicult for an unauthorized person to tamper with or remove the device from the parking meter.
The sign plates are so mounted on their brackets that they may be quickly and easily attached thereto and removed therefrom. This will provide a means of substituting new sign plates.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the-above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims;
