The present invention relates broadly to cabi- (Cl. 312T304) nets, and more particularly to a multi-capacity drug cabinet.
An important object .of the invention is to provide a cabinet especially designed for drug stores, although not limited in use thereto, which permits maximum storage space for different size articles, to which access can be readily obtained.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet having upper and lower sections, the upper section comprising hinged tiers of shelves for storing articles of various sizes, while the lower section forms a. support for the hinged tiers of shelves and at the same time provides drawer space in which other articles can be stored.
The above and other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part be hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of a cabinet embodying the features of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the upper portion of the cabinet with one group of shelves in open position and the side wall removed;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the shelf assembly opened as in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a detailed view of one of the rollers on which the tiers of shelves ride.
The cabinet in accordance with the present invention has been especially designed for drug store use and is particularly adaptable for druggists when engaged in the filling of prescriptions. Hinged tiers ofshelves are provided serving as storage space for diiferent size bottles containing ingredients for compounding prescriptions and which are instantly available to the druggist. It is, of course, to be understood that the cabinet is not limited to use in drug stores as it is capable of use wherever various size articles are to be stored and/or vended.
Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description thereof, the new and improved cabinet is generally designed by the reference numeral 5, the same being substantially rectangular in shape and comprising top and bottom walls 6 and I and side walls 8 and 9 respectively. The side walls 8 and 9 are of a nature to give a more finished appearance to the cabinet. The cabinet 5 may be formed of any suitable material such as wood or metal, and is designed to include upper and lower sections I and I I.
In the form illustrated, the lower section is shown to have three vertical columns, each column having five drawers. It will be noted that the uppermost drawers l3 are smaller in depth than 2 the remaining drawers so that'fairly large packages .or articles may be stored in the larger drawers while smaller packages .or articles may be stored in the smaller drawers. Each of thedrawlers is provided with a handle ll; of the pull t pe. .On the back wall 2.0 of the cabinet 11 137918 arranged a series of horizontally disposed members 2| and vertically disposed members 22 which define shelves 23 of a permanent nature. The shelves 23 are preferably arranged and dimensioned to accommodate the largest size bottles.
The upper section II) consists of two tiers of shelves I and i6 defining therebetween a, space H. The tier [6, made up of hinged sections l8 and I9 and similar hinged sections 26 and 21 make up the tier I5. The sections I8, I9, 26 and -2l are substantially rectangular in shape and comprise top, bottom and side walls. Shelves 24 are suitably secured in spaced relation between the side walls of each section, and a partition 25 extends vertically between the end walls, to form front and rear compartments for the shelves 24.
The rearmost sections I9 and 21 are hinged as indicated at 28 to the vertically disposed members 22 and the sections I8 and 26 are hinged to the sections l9 and 21 as indicated at 29. Thus it will be seen that when access is desired to the front portion of the shelves 24 in the section I9, the section I8 will be swung away from the section E9 on its hinges 29. Likewise, when access is desired to the rear portion of the shelves of the section 19 or to the shelves 23, the section l9 will be swung outwardly on its hinges 28. This position of the sections is shown in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings.
In order to facilitate the swinging action of the sections, one or more rollers 30 are provided. These rollers 30 are supported in brackets 3! which are attached by means of screws or the like 32 to the upper face of the bottom section I I. In other words, the rollers 38 are arranged so that the bottom walls of the sections are supported thereon.
cess can be readily obtained. The cabinet permits an orderly arrangement of bottles on the various shelves, all of them being easily accessible.
It is obvious that many changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A cabinet of the character described having a top, side. and back walls, a plurality of shelves arran ed in'tiers within said walls and providing a space between them, and certain of said tiers being hinged one to the other with the rear.-
most pair of tiers hinged adjacent the back wall 01 said cabinet, whereby said hinged tiers may be moved into or out of said space. V-
2. A cabinet having a top, side and back walls, a plurality of shelves permanentlysecured horizontally in the rear of said cabinet, vertical members in the rear of said cabinet spaced from the end walls thereof and having their front edges disposed rearwardly of the front edges of said cabinet sides, a pair of shelf tiers of a breadth equal to the distance between said vertical members and the adjacent end walls of said cabinet, hinges connecting the rear ends of said tiers to said vertical members, a pair of second shelf tiers of equal width and breadth as said first named tiers, hinges connecting the rear edges of said second tiers to the forward edges of said first named tiers, the said hinged shelf tiers adapted to swing horizontally within said cabinet into and out of the space between said vertical members and into the space between said vertical members and the adjacent end walls of said cabinet.
