g 2 Claims. (Cl. 12S-287) This invention relates to a sanitary garment and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide a garment of this kind wherein is provided an absorbent pad applied in a manner whereby the pad may be effectively laundered without requiring removal from the garment.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a garment of this kind which is free of bulkiness and which can be worn with comfort.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved sanitary garment, whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure l is a view in perspective of a sanitary garment constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention and in wearing adjustment;

Figure 2 is a view in plan of the inner face of the garment and with the garment attened out;

Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken substantially on the line 4--4 of Figure 2;

Figure 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 1;

Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view in plan of an outer face corner portion ofthe garment as illustrated in Figure 5;

Figure 7 is a view in plan of the garment with portions broken away and with the panels in open position; and

Figure 8 is a view in plan of the blank from which the garment is formed.

As illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the garment comprises a trunk body B of an elongated and substantially non-strctchable cloth of desired weight having its major part reduced in thickness as by marginal cut out portions, or recesses, 2 of relatively large radii. The part I constitutes a breech cloth or crotch covering unit. The curved marginal portions 2 of the part l each has applied thereto a selvage binding 3 of soft gathered or luted material for direct contact with the person to increase the comfort in wear.

The end portions of the body B, or those parts outwardly of the breech cloth or crotch unit I, constitute aprons 3, which, when the garment 2 is applied, encircle the body of the wearer. The sidel portions of the aprons 3 overlap when the garment is applied (Figures 1 and 3) and said lapping portions are provided with coacting fastening elements 4 herein disclosed as conventional head and socket members.

Disposed over the inner face of the body B from one end to the other is a fiat absorbent pad or element A of a width closely approaching the width between the recesses at the sides of the central portion of the breechv cloth or crotch unit I and of substantially the same width from end to end.

The pad or element A is formed from a single sheet of material possessing the required absorbative properties. The sheet initially comprises a substantially rectangular blank A' of predetermined dimensions. The central portion of the sheet or fabric between the parallel fold lines a constitutes the main panel 5 of the pad or element A and the ends of the panel 5 have the extension ilaps 6 which are secured to the outer marginal portions of the aprons 3 by the rows 1 of stitching or otherwise as may be preferred.

Each side portion of the blank A constitutes a panel 8 which folds over along the line b upon the intermediate panel 9. The panels 8 and 9 are of substantially the same width and also substantially the same width as the main or central panel 5.

The outer corner portions of each of the panels 8 are attached by the stitching l0 or otherwise to the inner corner portions of the panel 9.

Each pair of overlying panels 8 and 9 are folded along a line a upon the panel 5 with one pair of panels 8 and 9 overlying the other. The outer corner portions of the underset panels 8 and 9 at their outer corner portions and closely adjacent to their line b of the fold are secured to the adiacent corner portions of the panel 5 by the stitching Il or the like. This stitching Il is also disposed through the adjacent corner portion of the second set of overlying panels 8 and 9.

The overlying portions ofthe panels 8 and 9 immediately adjacent to their folds b are provided with the extensions 6 which are also attached to the outer end marginal portions of the aprons 3 by the stitching 1 herein before referred to.

The end margins of the panels 8 and 9 are herein disclosed as disposed on inward curvature and pinked, as at I2, this materially increases comfort wear.

It is believed to be obvious that the pad or element A as herein comprised is free of bulkiness when in use. The formation of the pad or element A is also such as to permit the same to be properly laundered without removing the same from the body B.

The body B at substantially the longitudinal center thereof is cut to provide an entrance Slot I4 extending substantially from one end to the other of the body B. This slot I4 allows the placing between the body B and the pad or element A of the protective sheeting I5 of rubber or the like.

From the foregoing description it is .thought to v be obvious that a sanitary garment constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated.
