UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORTON LEE MUNSON, OF CHARLOTTE, MICHIGAN.
LAMP-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,050, dated April 25, 1882.
Application filed January 25, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORTON L. MUNSUN, of Charlotte, Eaton county, Michigan, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Lamp- Brackets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of a lamp-bracket constructed in accordance with my invention and with a lamp arranged thereon. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 8 is a side view of a modified construction of said bracket, and Fig. 4 a section of the same on the line mm, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a side view of a further modification of the bracket; Fig. 6, a section of the same on the line y y, Fig. 5; and Fig. 7, a rear view of the back piece of the bracket.
The object of this invention is to produce a safe, convenient, and handy lamp bracket, suitable for attachment to a printers case and other uses or places, whereby provision is made for maintaining the lamp in an upright positionin various changed positions of the bracket or structure to which it is attached; and the invention consists in a combination of an adjustable lamp stand with a peculiarly constructed bracket and devices for securing the stand at any desired adjustment.
Referring in the first instance to Figs. 1 and 2, A is the bed or back piece of the bracket, provided with rear flanges or clips, at b, arranged one above the other, and the upper one of which has a thumb-screw, B, whereby the bracket may be fastened to the top of a printcrs case and rest against any portion of said case, as most convenient; or the bracket may be attached to a wall, table, desk, or other structure. jecting arc-shaped or semicircular piece, 0, having a slot, 0, in it, and united at its ends, and also preferably at its middle, by an arm, (I, with the back piece, A.
Pivoted to the back piece, A, or to the arm at, immediately in front of the back piece, at c, is a lamp-holding arm, D, on the outer end of which the lamp E is carried or secured. The slot 0 in the piece 0 is struck from the center of the pivot c. The arm D is arranged on one side of the arc-shaped or semicircular piece 0, and has secured to it a screw-pin,f, ar-
On the face of back piece, A,,is a pro-,
ranged to pass through the slot 0 in the piece 0, and having a nut, g, on the opposite side of the piece 0 to that on which the arm D is situated, whereby, on slackening the nut g and moving the lamp-holding arm D up or down to adjust the lamp to an upright'position in various changed positions of the bracket-as, for instance, when attached to a printers case, the position of which is changeableand afterward tightening the nut g, the lamp is held on a level or in a proper position, and is secured against falling, which in the case of a kerosenelamp is attended with great danger. For printers use, in places where there is no gas, this improved lamp-bracket will be found exceedinglyconvenient and safe.
, Instead of the slotted are or semicircularshaped piece 0, having a slot, 0, it may have teeth or notches, as at h, Figs. 3 and 4, and the lamp-holding arm D be provided with a spring-catch, i, for engaging with the same in different adjustments of the lamp or arm D carrying it; or, again, the arm D may be adjustable between two are or semicircular-shaped pieces 0, and be secured when adjusted by a set-screw; or, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, but a single curved piece 0 may be used, and the same have no slot in it, but the lamp-holding arm D be provided with a guard, K, through which a set-screw passes to bear against the piece 0 and hold the arm D in any position to which it may have been adjusted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a lamp-bracket, the back piece, A, provided with the'clips a b and set-screw B atits upper end and the arc-shaped piece 0 at its lower front end, in combination with the lampholding arm D, pivoted to the said back piece, and the means, substantially herein shown and described, for adjustably securing it to the arc-shaped pieces, as set forth.
2. In alam p-bracket, the back piece, A,provided with an attaching device at its upper end, and with the slotted arc-shaped piece 0, in combinationwith the lamp-holding arm D, pivoted to the said back piece, and the clamping-screwfg, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
