E. W. BARSZCZ PAD DISPENSER Nov. 7, 1950 FIG. Z
Filed June 20, 1947 Wm w qww u w m w D E Patented Nov. 7, 1,950

Application June 20, 1947, Serial No. 755,878
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a dispenser of cotton pads.
Cotton pads are required by the dairy worker and farmer for straining milk, cleaning milk cans, wiping cows, and other purposes. It is the principal object of this invention to provide a container for such pads, the container being so arranged that a pad is readily removable therefrom. To this end, the invention contemplates a cylindrical hopper for holding the pads, and a bottom plate that is operable by means of a spring-actuated lever to withdraw a single pad from the bottom of the container. While the invention is shown applied to a dispenser of cotton cleaning pads, it is obvious that it is equally applicable to dispensers of other articles.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the new and improved dispenser.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective of the spring means for actuating the lever.
Figure 4 is a perspective of the bottom plate of the dispenser.
Figure 5 is a vertical section of the lever spring, taken along the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
The dispensing device comprises a cylindrical hopper IIJ that is open at the top and the bottom. The hopper I0 is fixed to a vertical bracket II by means of one or more horizontal supports I2. The cleaning pads or other articles to be dispensed are inserted into the hopper I through the top thereof, and subsequently the top is closed by a lid I4.
At the bottom of the hopper IIJ is a movable bottom plate I6, which is of smaller diameter than the hopper IB. The top of the bottom plate I6 bears an upwardly and forwardly projecting tongue I'I. The tongue I'I is adapted to at least partially pierce the lowermost pad in the hopper IIJ when plate IS is closed. The bottom plate I6 is secured to the upper surfaceY of a lever I8,'the rear of which is secured to an upper bifurcated hinge 20. A lower hinge 2I is adapted to cooperate with the upper hinge 20 by means of a hinge pin 22. The lower hinge 2I is secured to the vertical bracket II. The bottom of the hopper II! comprises an inwardly-directed annular ange 28 which provides a substantially large axial opening into which the plate I nts.
Means is provided for urging the upper hinge member 20 upwardly with respect to the lower hinge member 2|. This means comprises a coil spring 25 anchored to a lug 26 on the hinge pin 22 and having its legs 2l bearing against the arms of the upper bifurcated hinge 20. The hinge pin 22 is secured against rotation with respect' to the lower hinge 2l, by splining one end 29 of the hinge pin 22 in the lower hinge 2|.
The bracket II is mounted on a wall so as to attain a vertical position. The cleaning pads or similar articles are inserted into the hopper I0 by way of the top. The lid I4 will protect the contents of the hopper I0 from dust and vermin. To obtain a pad, the user depresses the lever I8, against the tension of the spring 25. The lever IB and the bottom plate I6 will swing downwardly about the hinge pin 22 as an axis, so that the tongue Il on the bottom plate I6 which is already engaged with the lowermost pad in the hopper I@ withdraws it from the bottom of the hopper I0. The flange 28 prevents the remaining pads from dropping out of the hopper when the plate I5 is open. To provide free play,
vthe bottom plate I6 has beveled edges, as indihopper is attached, said hopper including a bottom annular flange dening a restricted axial opening, said flange being adapted to support a vertical stack of articles to be dispensed, a bottom plate, means hinging said bottom plate to said bracket for movement upwardly into an upward position closing said opening below said stack of articles, a spring for normally urging the bottom plate into said upward position, a lever attached to the bottom plate and operable to depress the bottom plate against the tension of said spring, an upwardly and forwardlyprojecing tongue fixed to the upper surface of said bottom plate, said tongue being adapted to extend through said opening and at least partially pierce the lowermost article in said hopper when said bottom plate is in said upward position, and said tongue being adapted to withdraw said lowermost article from said hopper as said lever and bottom plate are depressed.
2. A dispenser for a stack of articles, comprising a hopper, said hopper having an open bottom, a closure for said open bottom, hinge means hingedly connecting said closure to said hopper for movement to and from open and closed positions, said closure including an inner surface, an inwardly-directed tongue fixed to said inner surface and adapted to at least parfV REFERENCES CITED many pierce' an adjacent article of Sa'd'stack The following references are of record in the when said closure is in said closed position, said me of this patent. tongue being adapted to withdraw said adjacent article through said open bottom when said 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS closure is moved to said open position, said Number Name Date hopper including an integral inwardly-directed 1,040,574 Patterson 0c@ 3, 1912 flange partially closing said open bottom, and 1,105,803 La vine Aug 4, 1914 said flange gomrineans forrl retaining the 1,270,194 Nybak .June 18, 191s remaind'ero sai s ae ereinw en'said closure 10 is moved toV said' openposition.
