The present invention relates to vaginal irrigators or syringes of the type having a canula or nozzle which is surrounded by a widening device and having a setting member to limit the depth of penetration of the nozzle.
An object of the present invention is to provide a vaginal irrigator having adjustable spreader arms constituting a widening device.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a vaginal irrigator having a widening device and a depth penetrating regulating member, the widening device and the setting member being operable separately without affecting the setting of the other.
The improved vaginal irrigator of the present invention is characterized by the fact that the depth penetrating setting member is movable in an axial direction with relation to the nozzle and the associated widening device in such a Way that by relative displacement between these parts the desired depth of penetration of the nozzle can be regulated and thereafter the widening device and the depth penetration setting member can be secured relatively to one another.
The present invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which the gure is a longitudinal section of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the vaginal irrigator shown has a nozzle a having a plurality of openings therein and a head so that the iluid passing therethrough can be applied to the desired area. This nozzle can be made of any suitable material such as for example glass. At the rearward end of the nozzle a, a spigot member a1 for attachment thereto of the rubber hose b having the rubber bulb b1 therein is provided. Fluid enters the nozzle through the rubber hose b as indicated by the arrow adjacent to the bulb b1.
In order to enable the walls of the vagina to be spread or dilated for the purpose of ensuring a thorough washing or injection of the injected fluid there Iare arranged spreader arms c adjacent to the nozzle a on at least two sides thereof and which spreader arms c together form the widening device. These spreader arms c are pivotally mounted in the boxlike carrier d by means of the member d1. The carrier d is round in cross section. The rearward portions of the spreader arms c are fastened to a screw threaded sleeve e by means of links e1. The sleeve e is slidably mounted on the inner end portion of the nozzle a. A finger nut or the like f is screwed onto the sleeve e and extends into the carrier d. By means of the finger nut ,f being rotated thesleeve e can be axially displaced with relation to the nozzle whereby the spreader arms c can vbe moved laway from the nozzle a as shown in dotted lines in the ligure or moved inwardly towards the nozzle.
The oval plate shaped depth penetration setting member g having a hollow cylindrical skirt g1 is slidably mounted upon and guided by the carrier box d. This skirt g1 has longitudinal slots g2 in the sides thereof. Clamping screws h pass through the longitudinal slots g2 and are screwed into the pivot member d1. The setting member y can be displaced axially upon the carrier box d due to the provision of the slots g2 and secured in any desired position of adjustment by means of the screws h. In this manner the depth of penetration of the nozzle a can be regulated Las desired which is of particular advantage and yet the spreader arms constituting the widening device can be operated without .affecting the setting of the member g.
The washing or irrigatingwater or lluid is delivered to the nozzle a in the known manner by alternate squeezing or release of the rubber bulb b1. An outlet pipe i is provided in the setting plate g so that the water or uid can flow away during use of the irrigator as shown by the arrow adjacent to the pipe i in a known manner.
It is apparent that modications may be made in the described preferred embodiment of the invention without departing from the scope of the 1appended claim dening the limits of my inven- What I claim is:
A vaginal irrigator comprising ya hollow carrier, a nozzle secured in said carrier and extending therefrom, spreader arms pivotally mounted in said carrier and extending substantially parallel to said nozzle, adjusting means for moving said spreader arms toward or away from said nozzle comprising an externally threaded sleeve movably mounted on said nozzle in said carrier member, links connecting said sleeve and said spreader arms, an internally threaded adjusting member screwed to said sleeve and rotatably journalled in a wall of said carrier for moving said sleeve and spreading said arms, a depth penetration setting member having an oval shaped opening and a skirt thereon having longitudinal slots therein, said setting member being slidably mounted on said carrier, and clamping screws inserted in said carrier through said slots in said setting member for securing said setting member in desired relationship with said carrier and said nozzle, said setting member and said spreader arms being respectively adjustable Without affecting the setting 10 of the other.
