Description

P. M. RESSING ER April 11, 195o ayer @www Patented pr. 11, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,503,413 DISPLAY STAND Paul M. Ressinger, Highland Park, Ill.
.Application December 30, 1946, Serial No. 719,240
` 4 Claims. (Cl. 2211-74) My invention relates to improvements in a display stand and has for one object to provide a new and improved form' of small portable display stand useful, for instance, to display and make available for counter sales small articles like ink bottles packed in cartons.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a display stand as Will furnish ample room for a poster or sales card and .will at the same time support a large number of themarticles to be sold in such a way that they remain in place until purposely removed and in such a way that the display stand with its load of cartons or other objects may be moved about without spilling.
Another object is to provide a stable, sightly, convenient display stand.
Other objects will appear from' time to time throughout the course of the specification and claims.
My invention is illustrated more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view; and
Figure 2 shows an end elevation.
Like parts are indicated by like characters throughout the specification and drawings.
As shown my display stand is preferably made of an extrusion of plastic which is self-sustaining, though to be sure, the stand might be built up of separate sections.
I is a main base. It has a downwardly extending flange 2 to engage a level surface upon which the stand rests. Extending upwardly from the base at a point adjacent the rear boundary of the base I is a perpendicular supporting element 3. Extending forwardly from the supporting element 3 parallel with the base i is a storage platform 4. Extending upwardly from the forward edge of the storage platform 4 at right angles to the base I' is a display and supporting member 5. This display and supporting member has a front surface upon which a poster may be mounted. Extending rearwardly from the member 5 are two shelves 6 and 'I. Each shelf being perpendicular to the member 5 and so parallel with the base I. The shelves or members 4 and 6 are upwardly flanged at 8 and 9. The shelf 1 is provided with a similar though wider upwardly extending back I0.
Preferably there is space on the base I between the forward edge and the wall 3 for a row of cartons arranged two deep. These cartons are visible from the front and may be removed for sale. The space on the shelves 4 and 6 between the back of the wall 5 and the anges 3 and 9 is preferably half as wide as the space between the wall 3 and the front edge of the base I so that a single row of cartons may be stored behind the display panel 5 being held against rearward displacement by the ribs or flanges 8 and 9. The width of the shelf l is substantially the same as that of the shelves 4 and 8, but because cartons stored thereon are exposed to the front, the flange I0 projects upwardly further than the ribs 8 and 9.
When another base stands on a level surface, it is, as indicated, tilted to the rear slightly by the flange 2 so that cartons on the base l and on the shelf l tend to slide downwardly toward the rear being arrested by the wall 3 or the flange I0 as the case may be, and so being held in position for storage, display and handling.
At the lower edge of the wall 5 is a moulding I I. This dresses up the display panel, reinforces and stiffens the joint between the shelf 4 and the display panel 5, and furnishes a support and a frame for any display advertising to be placed on the panel 5.
Although I have shown an operative form of my invention, it will be recognized that many changes in the form, shape and arrangement of parts can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and my showing is therefore to be taken as, in a sense, diagrammatic.
I claim:
1. A portable display stand including a flat, rearwardly inclined material supporting base, a perpendicular wall projecting upwardly from the lower portion of the base, a plurality of shelves including a forwardly facing shelf and rearwardly facing shelves, means supporting said shelves from said wall in vertically spaced relation and parallel with the base, said supporting means including a display panel parallel with the wall,
said panel supporting and masking said rearwardly facing shelves.
2. A portable display stand including a flat, rearwardly inclined material supporting base, a perpendicular wall projecting upwardly from the lower portion of the base, a plurality of shelves including a forwardly facing shelf and rearwardly facing shelves, means supporting said shelves from said wall in vertically spaced relation and parallel with the base, said supporting means including a display panel parallel with the wall, said panel supporting and masking said rearwardly facing shelves, flanges extending upwardly from the lower edges of each of the shelves.
3. A portable display stand including a flat base, a flange extending downwardly from one edge of the base, a wall extending upwardly perpendioular to the base from adjacent the opposed edge thereof, a material supporting shelf extending forwardly from the wall parallel to the base and terminating at a point substantially half way between the wall and the flanged edge of the base, a combined material supporting wall and display panel extending upwardly from the shelf, parallel with the wall, supporting shelves extending rearwardly from the panel.
4. A portable display stand including a at base, a flange extending downwardly from one edge of the base, a wall extending upwardly perpendicular to the base from adjacent the opposed edge thereof, a material supporting shelf extending forwardly from the wall parallel .to-the ibase and terminating at a point substantially half way between the wall and the anged edge of thebase, a combined material supporting wall and;` display panel extending upwardly from the shelf, parallel with the wall, supporting shelves extending rearwardly from the panel, one at the upper edge of the panel, another intermediate the upper and lower edges of the panel.
