It therefore, a general object of this invention to provide a simple, durable and relatively inexpensive appliancethat can e installed on a faucet withi'na bath tuhthiis eliminating all outside fittings and fixturesandlocating the shower completely within the bath tub and below the head height of a person using the same. I

Another object'of'the invention is to provide a shower bath appliance which is adjustable to direct a spray of water vertically downwardly and at various angles, both forwardly and rear- Wardly of the vertical according to the angular position of the swinging tubular arrn'. I

If found desirable either or both of the tubular arms 26 and 27 and their knuckle joint members may be made in sections. That is, the short arm 29, Figs. 9, 13 and 14, is made up of at least two sections 20a and 20b joined together, as by a threaded joint 32, and the section 201) is connected with the knuckle joint member 22. Likewise, the long tubular arm 21 may consist of at least two sections 21a and 2'), Fig. 9, joined together, as by a threaded joint 33, and the section 27:: is connected with the knuckle joint member 25.

Referring particularly to Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, and 8, a plate or collar 34 is shown on the short tubular arm 20 just to the rear of, below or at the inner end of the plug 2| and this may be formed as an integral part of the structure, as shown in Fig. 5, or it may be a separate element mounted on the structure as by screw threads in the manner illustrated in Fig. 8. To form a water tight seal, a compressible gasket 35, such as a rubber washer, is placed over the plug 2| and seated on the plate or collar 34, for engagement with the edge of the outlet spout of a faucet. A metal strap clamp 36 has one leg fastened to plate or collar 34, at one side of the plug by fastening means 31, while the other leg has an offset engaged by a screw 38 that is threaded through a portion of the plate or collar 34.

By inserting the plug portion in the spout oi the faucet and placing the clamp 36 over a part of said faucet above its spout and then positioning and tightening the screw 38, the appliance will be firmly secured to the faucet completely within the bath tub, and a water tight joint between the faucet and appliance will be formed by the gasket 35.

The outer or free end of the long tubular arm 2! is preferably provided with an exterior thread 39 to receive the interiorly threaded socket 40 of the spray nozzle or rose 4| which includes an end wall 42 having perforations 43 arranged in an oblong pattern, Fig. 6. That is, the area of the end wall 42 which is perforated is Wider in one direction than the other at right angles to.

In lieu of the clamp, the plug 2| may be exteriorly threaded in every instance, as shown in Figs. to 14, inclusive, for direct threaded con-. nection with the interiorly threaded faucet spout, if the two fit each other, or with an adapter 44, Fig. 10, which has exterior threads to fit the interior ones of the faucet spout and also has interior threads to fit the threads of the plug 2!. The adapter may be made in various sizes to fit different sized faucet spouts but will always fit the one size of plug 2 l.

A plate or collar 45, similar to the one first described but not necessarily as large, is carried by the short tubular arm 20 to the rear of, below or at the inner end of the plug 2|, and this plate or collar may be formed integral with said short tubular arm whether the latter is in one piece, as in Fig. 11, or of a number of sections, as in Fig. 13. Likewise said plate or collar may be a separate element and mounted on the short tubular arm whether the latter is in one piece, as shown in Fig. 12, or in a number of sections, as indicated in Fig. 14.

With the appliance installed as shown, all of.

the elements are completely within the bath tub and the swingingly pivoted long tubular arm can be adjusted to the full line position for permitting water to run directly into the tub for filling the latter or it can be swung to the right of said full lin position in Fig. 2 so that the water will quietly run down an end wall of the tub whereby persons in rooms adjacent the bath will not be disturbed by splashing or falling water. If the apparatus is to be used for washing the feet, it may be adjusted to some position at approximately the location of the adjacent dotted-line position in Fig. 2. For showering other portions of the body, such as the legs, while standing in the tub, or up to the head, while seated in the tub. the long tubular arm 21 may be manipulated to other intermediate positions. In order to direct the spray to a large vertical and small horizontal area of a persons body, the spray nozzle, head or rose 4| is turned so that the longer diameter of the perforated portion of the wall 42 is in a substantially vertical position as shown in Fig. 6. It can then be used in the highest elevated position without the likelihood of any water flowing over the sides of the tub. When the spray is to be directed to a small vertical and large horizontal area of the body, said spray nozzle, head or rose is rotated a quarter of a turn relative to the position shown in Fig. 6.

The appliance particularly depicted in Figs. 10 to 14, inclusive, can be used as above described and also can be utilized for washing the interior surface of the tub because by rotating the structure in the faucet spout, water can be directed to either side and by raising and lowering the long tubular arm the water will reach from the top to the bottom of said tub. If a stream of water is preferred so that the flow will be similar to that issuing directly from the faucet, the spray nozzle, head or rose 4| may be removed entirely from the long tubular arm 21.

The device described herein is especially adapted for use as a shower without the likelihood of wetting the person's hair as occurs when an overhead spray is employed, and many other utilitarian purposes will be apparent to a user of the appliance.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction herein shown and described as these may be varied within the scope of the appended claims Without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is:

1. A bathtub shower bath appliance comprising .a tubular arm removably connected to a bathtub faucet and in direct communication with the spout of said faucet and extending downwardly therefrom, a long tubular arm pivotally hinged to the lower end of said short arm and commnuieating with the latter, and a spray head rotat ably and removably mounted on the outer end of said long arm, the long arm being swingable from a depending position contiguous the adjacent end wall of the tub and to one side of a vertical plane parallel with said end wall and bisectlng the faucet spout, to an elevated position on the opposite side of said plane entirely within the tub.

2. The shower bath appliance of claim 1 wherein the shower head has a perforated end Wall with the perforations arranged in a generally oblong area.

3. In combination with a bathtub and its faucet having a threaded spout, a shower bath appliance for installation entirely Within the tub and comprising a short arm having a threaded end constituting a plug, a knuckle joint member on the other end of said short arm, a long tubular arm having a threaded outer end to receive a shower head, a knuckle member on the opposite end of said long arm for rotatable connection with the first mentioned knuckle member, means to hold said members together, a plate on the short arm at the inner end of the plug, a gasket surrounding the plug and engaging the plate, and an adapter for selective mounting on the plu and insertion in the faucet spout.
