Canada Application November 24, 1947, Serial No. 787,711 2 Claims. (01. 128-98) My invention relates to improvements in supports for hemorrhoids.

The object of the invention is to provide means which can be conveniently and unobtrusively worn by a person aifiicted with protrudin piles for supporting the pile or piles in a position whereby the wearer may sit down with comfort and generally be oblivious of his ailment. A further object is to provide such a device as can be readily cleaned and kept in a perfectly sanitary condition.

The invention contemplates a pad of convenient shape and size which is held in position in the crotch by a suitable suspending member, as will be more fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 4 is a side view of a pad covered with an elastic or plastic cover.

In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

The numeral I indicates a belt of leather or fabric having a buckle '2 or other suitable fastening means. Preferably sewn to the approximate centre of the front of the belt I is a tab 4 supporting a buckle 5 and adjustably coupled t the buckle 5 is a strap 'i' which is provided at its outer end with a loop 8 which is slidable along the back portion of the belt 5, so as to permit the looped end of the strap to move to a point diametrically opposite to the tab 4.

Slidably mounted upon the bight I 0 of the strap 1, is a pad I2, which is substantially oval in plan and in cross sectional form and is preferably made with a sponge rubber body I4 and is covered with basil or other soft leather as at I5, suitably treated to render it proof against moisture. The base of the pad I2 is provided with a loop I6 through which the strap 7 is inserted to support said pad in position upon said strap. The sponge rubber body I4 is provided with a central vertical bore I8 in which a sponge rubber plunger I9 is freely mounted. This plunger is secured at its lower end to the body or its covering to prevent accidental removal. At the upper extremity of the plunger I9 an enlargement is provided, which enlargement is also preferably of sponge rubber with a leather coating 2I and is so formed as to provide a shoulder 22. Surrounding the plunger is a coil spring 24 which is buttressed at the base of the bore I8 and under the shoulder 22 of the enlargement 20 to support the plunger in substantially vertical alignment with the bore and to maintain it in substantially extended position above the pad I2.

The numeral 26 indicates a preformed prophylactic cover of an elastic, plastic or other material which is adapted to fit over the enlargement 20 and the upper part of the pad I2, which cover is adapted to afford ample upward extension to the enlargement 29 and keep the upper part of the plunger I9 and the spring 24 enclosed,

In use, the belt I and the strap 1 are adjusted to the body of the wearer and the pad I2 is moved in position under the rectum. The protruding pile or piles are pushed back into position above the anus and the enlargement is inserted thereunder to protrude beyond the basal constriction of the rectum and to support the piles against downward movement. The support afforded to the piles assists materially in preventing further distension and enables the vein wall to become stronger, frequently reducing the size of the piles to the extent of preventing them from protruding.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A hemorrhoid supporting device comprising a flexible member adapted to be suspended in the crotch of the wearer, a pad mounted upon said member, said pad having a vertical bore, a resilient plunger secured in the base of said bore, an enlargement carried on the plunger and a coil spring surrounding the plunger adapted to urge the enlargement away from said pad.

2. A hemorrhoid supporting device comprising a flexible member adapted to be suspended in the crotch of the wearer, a pad mounted upon said member, said pad having a vertical bore, a sponge rubber plunger secured within the bore and an enlargement carried on the outer end of the plunger.
