To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. STARK, of West Bay City, Bay county, Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Tables, of which the following is aspecification.

The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of that class of tables known as adjustable sewing-tables and the invention con- IO sists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of theparts, as hereinafter more fully set forth. In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A A represent the legs of the table, built in the style and form of lazy-tongs, and secured together at their central pivotal points by the cross-bars B C, in the latter of which are formed the longitudinal slots at a.

D E-represent diagonal brace-rods, the lower ends of which are pivotally secured to the bar 13. Through the upper end of the brace D is passed a winged bolt, b, which also 0 passes through the slot at in the bar C, and receives upon its end a cam-plate, 0, which has a sliding movement in a longitudinal recess, d, in the rear face of the bar C. A similar bolt, e, passes through the upper end of the brace-rod E, and through the slot at in the bar C; but in this case the cam-plate c is secured in the upper end of the brace-rod.

The upper ends of the legs A are pivotally secured to the bed-pieces G, upon the upper a. 0 sides of which is secured the table board or top H. The upper ends of the legs A are connected together by means of a rod, I, the outer ends of which are circular in form and project beyond the legs, sliding and resting 5 in a longitudinal groove, h, in the inner faces of the bed-pieces G. The rod I is enlarged near each end, as at i, such enlargements being V-shaped in cross-section and of greater diameter than the circular ends of the rod, thus forming catches k, which engage with the teeth of the ratchet-springs J, which are rigidly secured at their rear ends to the bedpieces G.

By this construction and arrangement of parts the table can be elevated or lowered to the desired height, and after being so adjusted the winged bolts should be turned, which will cause the lugs l upon their ends to travel upon the cam-plates and firmly draw and secure the diagonal braces and cross-bar together, mak- 6 ing the table steady upon its feet and prevent an end swaying.

The ends of the rod I, resting within the recesses or grooves h in the bed-pieces, secure the top to place and prevent any accidental 6 displacement of the parts during the adjustment of the table.

I am aware that an adjustable table provided with pivoted legs, a slotted crossbar, and pivoted diagonal bars, having bolts opero ating in the slots of the cross-bar and held in any desired position by jahrnuts, has heretofore been employed, and I therefore lay no claim to such invention.

What I claim as my invention is- 1. In adjustable tables, the combination, with the pivoted legs A A, of the cross-bar B, diagonal brace-rods D E, pivoted thereto, crossbar C, provided with slots a a, having recesses d, cam-plates c, sliding in said recesses, and bolts b, each having lug Z, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

In adjustable tables, the combination, with the legs A A and bed-pieces G, provided with grooves h and ratchet-spring J, of rod I, 8 provided with catches k, cross bar B bracerods D E, slotted cross -bar 0, cam-plates c,

and winged bolts b, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.

3. In adjustable tables, the combination,

with the legs A A and bed-pieces G, each provided with a groove, h, and ratchet-springs J, of the rod I, having a catch, it, near each end, and connecting the legs A, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
